Looking for a set of tall finned covers for my sbc. The height needs to be 4.25" in order to clear the girdles. The only covers I found to fit so far are the edelbrock elites. So I am looking for finned covers. Looking to see if any of you have made covers. Thinking about taking a run of the mill plain cover and welding fins on to it. Thoughts?
When I wanted to run a pair of Cal Customs on mine I made a pair of spacers from 9/16 Aluminum plate. You may consider making spacers to go under your rocker covers.
Great idea Pork`n`******! Cut the aluminum close, bolt to the valve cover and use a flush trim bit in a Router. The guide bearing would ride on the original valve cover giving you a perfect match.
Chek Fleabay, there's dozeens of people selling valve cover spacers in various heights. http://motors.shop.ebay.com/__?_from=R40&_trksid=p3841.m39.l1313&_nkw=valve%20cover%20spacers&_sacat=&rvr_id=229103195033&MT_ID=335&crlp=7054736331_9887&tt_encode=raw&geo_id=491&keyword=valve+cover+spacers&adgroup_id=1083168141
There are spacers out there I think Moroso and some others made them they pop up on ebay and craigslist from time to time
Use valve cover spacers, mine is a BBC, not Sbc, but had to use them to clear my Girdles Used ansen spacers off ebay.
On my BBC I though about taking two set of CalCustoms cutting them up and rewelding them to build a taller set. I even bought another set but in the end I just bought the spacers on Ebay. The ones I bought look like an extension of the head. I painted mine the same color as my heads and they blend in real good. Not the bet pic but this will give you an idea.
I actually just laid mine out using a gasket and cut them out on the bridgport. But I have a friend that uses a router and carbide cutter all the time to cut aluminum. He makes a wood template and then uses it to guid his router. If you paint the spacer the same color as the head it would hardly be noticable. Something else I have done on pld race cars is to take two pairs of steel covers and cut one lust below the top radius then cut the flange off the other and welded them together. Its kind of a pork'n'bean/backyard solution but if your winning all anyone sees are your "traditional" tail lights.
Not sure how tall they are. http://www.summitracing.com/search/...tyle/Finned/Engine-Size/5-7L-350/?Ns=Rank|Asc
I have a set of 1.25" spacers. Failed to mention that as well. The spacers fit with the old school finned edelbrocks. Here is a pic: bothers me that they dont look like one piece. Maybe I can mill off some of the lip on the cover to match up with the spacer. Will end up painting the spacers anyway. Wanted to achieve the finned going down the full distance of the cover.
Hard to believe but I was unable to find custom valve covers for my Packard V8. So I took Packard script off an unsuspecting fender and using 2-56 screws, fastened it to my stock covers. Then to clear the new rocker arms I made these spacers. Who needs Summit?
