My y-block has a spin on oil filter adapter. No one carries just the gasket (block to plate) so I made my own. (twice) First one was fiber material with a coat of permatex. 2nd was thicker cork material with black oil resistance RTV. I thought I thought I had it licked and drove it almost 200 miles yesterday with no leaks. I go out this morning to go to the store. Start it up and it is leaking again. Same spot on the bottom. This is really getting old. The adapter plate does not seemed to be warped and all surfaces were cleaned. I am going to order a new unit ($30) It is just a steel plate, gasket and threaded ******. Anyone have the same troubles? Suggestions? I have used different filters
When building my 312 I messed my gasket up when I put the adapter plate on. Leaked terriable when we fired the motor up. When I took it off it appeared that when tightning the adapter I spun the plate and waded the gasket up. I went to the parts store and bought a oil filter for a thunderbird with a y-block (didn't have one for a 57 ford but did for a thunderbird, go figure) even though the filter wont be used the oil filter gasket is the same as the one used with the adapter. I glued the new gasket to the adapter ring and let it set up overnight. Put it on the next day and havent noticed a leak there yet. Bonus was when I got to looking in my fel-pro gasket set I had used for the rebuild I found an extra oil filter gasket.
Does anyone know who makes and sell a bullet oil adapter plate with an buna-o-ring on it. I have the steel one and it leaks again.
Last I heard the billet ones are no longer available. Those were good, of the steel ones the old fords were best. Try over at yblocksforever, that’s a frequent subject over there. Jdh6fan’s comment on the gasket unit is correct, and those (cartridge) are still available.
I had one for a 472 Cadillac that the center was drilled at an angle to the gasket surface. No gasket on the planet would seal that.
