i stuck

hey wheres the short?52 gmc truck not many wires ,but jeeeeeze when key is on,i touch metal on distributer casing and the wire from the points thing?it sends spark through the coil wire.but once you start cranking it system goes dead,no spark,starters cranking but wont fire.help me.lol
