My uncle got a huge set of Proto tools from the railroad over 30 years ago with a 5 finger discount. Now I have them, and I have to say, they are great tools. Really durable, very tough. Rachets feel good, and the regular 12 point deep sockets handle impact wrench use just fine. Excellent stuff
I've had great luck with both Proto and Black hawk . Problem here for me is the only place that had those tools no longer sells them ..... Sad too, as they have some killer pliers . scrubba
I have some old Proto hand tools handed down to me by my grandfather I really like them. There sturdy as hell and are user friendly. Usually keep an eye out for them at the pawn shops!!!
I learned about Proto tools 40 years ago from my Dad, very good quality tools. I use an old Proto torque wrench at work instead of the new, junk brand ones they bought.
Proto is the only torque wrench we use in the hangar. They come in within calibration and seem to hold calibration.
Proto Tools used to be made in Jamestown, NY, but closed up and moved south I think. The factory building was next to where I worked. Their place shook our floors at night with their BIG hammers stamping out wrench blanks!! Sadly the building no longer exists...just a field there now.....
Teh local NAPA sells Proto tools here...Have a bunch of old Proto tools that I got from my grandfather....plus the gas company I work for uses nothing but Proto and Williams tools....
My dad had some proto and Blackhawk sockets. Very good quality. You can pretty much judge a top one from a crap one by the wall thickness. Minimax (Japanese) make bloody good 3/8" drive sets. Personally, I told the snap on guy to piss off, screwdrivers used as chisels, drifts and no warranty? Did I mention selling my first born just to have a handful of the stuff? Forget that. Next ol fella with all brands in his truck said "hit 'em, use 'em as levers and punches, if you break it I will give you another one". Now he's the man!
