It's either a TreddleVac or Morian MC. CH Topping are the folks for it. Good people and a very interesting shop to visit. Vince always has something exotic in there. And the place is cleaner than an operating room. A good thing when dealing with brakes, IMO.

A stupid question I am sure but what fluid is used in the treadle vac system? I have not seen a system like this and want to be sure I am using correct fluid. thank you Jim

This is an OLD post but I was wondering what you did about the pedal ratio when you changed to a more convential power unit with dual MC?

I'm swaping a TredleVac unit in my 56 Mercury over to a GM 7" Vac and dual resevour. I understand the tredlevac pedal ratio is 1 to 1 as is. I read that most modern vac*** units need a minimum of 4.5 to 1 ratio with 5 to 6 to 1 being ideal. What did you wind up doing? How did it work? Thanks

That's a Treadle-Vac, and they are ****. I replaced the one in my '59 Lincoln with a small diameter street rod-style vacuum booster and a regular dual master.

What did you do about the pedal ratio. Did you stick with the Lincoln setup?

I've fought one of these on my 57 Olds for years. It's been rebuilt twice and the pedal was rock hard, with almost no stopping power. After a year of new lines, brakes, cylinders, vacuum checks, etc. I finally took it out and it's still apart. The Olds has a double firewall, with the air p***ages for the heater between the first and second layer, so swing pedals are out (thus they have the fake swing pedal stock). The non-power units mount with a regular floor pedal to a frame crossmember, but the power units have a pedal pivot bolted to the floor to look like a "modern" swing pedal, then the rod goes through the floor under the pedal pad. The booster/cylinder is mounted under the steering column at an angle with the booster bolted to the toeboard of the floor. I'll figure out something eventually, as I want good brakes on the car and it won't slide a wheel in gravel now.
