Almost 200 of you voted in my poll a couple of weeks ago. Had a nice 283 ready to go in and the 8BA in the 40 was tired at best. Well I got lots of great advice and we all know how expensive Fladheads are to build:eek: So I came to the conclusion that I would keep the old 8ba for a future build and throw the 283 in there till I could afford to do it right! Really love the old Flatheads.
Well I had the 283 for sale on here and another mostly local site and a week ago a guy contacted me about it and saw that I was looking for a Flathead as well. I went over to see what he had for trade and we struck a deal:D

Any when it was all over I ended up with the exact motor I wanted to put in and as it turns out I even knew the motor. Here's the skinny: 50 Merc Flathead .30 over Isky 400jr cam built by Howard's Custom Flatheads! The motor was put in a 32 coupe and has less than 500 miles on the rebuild. It came complete with everything less the intake and carbs, even had new clutch, starter, Mallory distributor, wires pumps etc...!!! I am PUMPED!!!:D

Here it is in its temporary new home(My shop floor) with my 2X2 setup sitting on it. I am sending carbs and intake to ****ster27 to perform his magic and then its going in the 40:D:D:D

Here is a pic of it when it was in the 32 with the Thickston on it! It was a beast in the 32!

Do those scoops have screens in the front? I have a set that looks just like that except a bit larger, and fit the Holley 2-barrels on an FE 3-deuce, with the screens, and they are boat parts, "spark arrestors" to be legal on a boat. They were on a V-drive and faced the back on the boat so they don't ingest water, but the engine sits backwards in the boat, so in a car, the scoops face front, and look great- and I'm thinking they need to go in my 40 pickup on a 427
Great trade, you got a very cool engine instead of a belly****on :p

Good choice! It's better to go along when the flathead Goddess makes you a deal you can't refuse. Now you can keep hearing that great flattie sound.

Some days you fall in it and just flat come out a winner. That ought to be a fun ride when you get it all together.

Thanks Guys, This wasn't a straight trade but still a great deal for me! Plus he had a 40 Headlight bezel I needed and a set of old chrome hood hinges, got those too! Great guy to deal with as well!

Now that is worth talking about! Nice to see some one not give in to the nay-sayers. A flatty will get you there ad back just as reliable as any thing else. Your biggest enemy is ignition, well and also carbs. I have been know to run mine a little and the flathead hasnt let me down. I sure do like that flathead!

If I'm ever in a lightning storm, I hope I'm standing beside you, because... someone up there likes you! Congrats. Wish I could be there to help install it and hear it start.
