Saw this ride on fleabay, and I don't remember a time when I grew up in the 60's with gassers and ever wanted white walls on my car. Just one old drag racer's opinion, whats yours???

  2. Maybe if it was stock with fender skirts, definitely not traditional on this one is it? Good looking '55 though. JMHO

The first Stone, Woods & Cook Willys had wide whites on the front.

Just doesn"t look right, kinda look like port-a-walls. Thin whites maybe but those take away from a good looking 55

Maybe he takes the slicks off when he's done racing and puts the white walls back on to match the front.. Probably done alot back in the day when your car was dual purpose......

    More didn't. (G)
Gasser classes didn't really get going good until the early 60's, WWW were on the way out by then. They just barely overlapped.

No one ever said these guys had good taste. :D

But they probably didn't sit around bitching about what other people put on their cars, either. Yes I know it's an Altered.

My Father said they were all into blackwalls by the 60s.
My thought it that they were running whatever tires they could afford, probably used.
I think they were spending whatever money they had on speed parts, and probably
cared less what the sides of the tires looked like.

Yep. Judging by his user name/location. Here's the info from the Ebay ad:

"Please call with any questions. John cell# 585-455-0980"

Sounds like somebody is very touchy.

I don't think any HAMBers will be bidding on this car I guess....

Looks like a really bitchin car though.

seems like some cars can pull it off better than others. i've seen 55-57 chevys that can, and some/most that cant. that one in the original post definitely cant. not knockin the car, just sayin.

I grew up in the '50's and '60's watching gasser run, and saw a lot of them with whitewalls up front, but never liked it, even back then.

  28. I'd run it just like that. Nice going Johnny. What's it got under the hood?
