Hooligan, in this instance pictures would help greatly. we are kind of shooting in the dark until we can actually SEE where your tank needs to fit and what it needs to fit around.

    Help us help you.

  3. well measurements are as follows-

for a tank to fit under the car: around 4 1/2 deap,10 1/2 long 38 wide,..it cant be any wider but the other two can give or take an inch.

for inside the car: no more than 39 long, and 8 tall.

used heavy sheet & gas welded all except the mounts. put the dash gauge fitting in the back next to the filler. It's open access because I have a bucket body. Once all seams are done, used airbrush pump to pressure & checked with soapy water. after a few do-overs I brazed a few iffy looking spots, mostly corners. Did the white coating inside and bedliner outside, damn good tank no problems. There are 2 mounts on the frame and crossmember, also made a long one to the floor of the body, like a sway bar link almost attaches to the inside next to the tube tunnel

Consider using a farm implement or older tractor tank on your car, similar to the one that is just barely visible in this photo of my "Hot Tub", mounted behind the front seat. It is oval-shaped. It holds 5.5 gallons, is about 16" tall and about 20 inches wide and about six inches thick. I think I paid five bucks for it and it had provisions for a SW fuel sender. At 17 MPG that gets me about 90 miles and believe me, after 90 miles in this thing I'm ready for a fuel break.
    Good luck.

  7. i was thinking about that but the sides on my car arent teh strongest it would take alot more work, cool car, i see how that could work if i re-worked the back of my car some

barry-thats another place to put one, but i have NO room under my car,i have a ****** cooler, and battery and the other side has a large ooga horn, kinda cramped under there, i like how you made your own tho, i used red kote to do my tank,it held up for about a day, and i let it dry 30 hours when the directions call for 24.

frenchtownflyer-that wouldnt fit at all but for 5 bucks that isnt bad! my pop called up his old job (diesel dismantler) and they have some 9 inch around by 32 long air tanks for 25 bucks, ill pick one up tomorow and see what i can do with one of them.still have to figure out were to get a fuel filler and cap localy.

  8. Just a thought, if you want to do the tank on the cheap. Where I live there is a recycling station (there are also s**** yards as well). They let you poke around and look through stuff brought in. Usually, there are some small already fabbed tanks, at least I have bought a couple, made of aluminum or stainless even. I gave $12 for the two (weight of metal) I got. One even had a cap and sending unit for a SW guage. I usually get stuff like this, then figure out where to mount it. You said a CHEAP solution, and that is mine my friend. I also got another tank and aluminum sheets, cut the filler and bungs out of tank and custom fabbed a tank for my coupe right behind seat and in front of kickup. Will do a post on this fab job someday $23 was investment.

  9. i did alot of looking since my last post, i did go to some s**** yards but they were rude and didnt have anything so i went to my fathers old work (diesel s****per) and found a cool 8x32 air tank, capped all the holes, cut a small hole for the filler, and used some exhaust pipe to weld for a filler, i just have to order a cap from speedway, it looks pretty good and it was 20 bucks, ill try to get a pic of it

did you try to recoat the inside of the tank? a second coat might seal up the hole.

Look into boat tanks ,Older bigger boats had saddle tanks,Not the one in the floor.Thats what I used ,There thin and will fit behind the seat,Tanks also sells one ,Theres is a little fatter but might work for you.I put my fill on the back part of the body ,On thinking about it ,The ones from tanks will work for you,I hinged my hood opposite of yours,So you do have a little extra clearance,Id contact them ,At there website I dont think they have that tank pictured.......

  14. thats a cool tank thread fiftyv8,

thanks fellas i found a air tank at a truck yard ysed ,cut a hole, plugged the fittings, made some brackets and its workin pretty good, im pretty sure a average size person can sqeeze in the back still

  15. the reason why i didnt was that the fuel came back out a bit red when i pured it out after i noticed it sprung a leak again, i read on the directions that their new formula doesnt leach into the fuel, and if it does,it needs to pe stripped out and re-done, wich is easier said than done,

i like my rear mounted tank, i can do gauges, have some room still and not drip gas on the cowl when i fill it, i think its around 12 gallons.

  16. heres a pic of the air tank

Some early Japanese Datsuns had vertical style tanks behind their back seat which if found could work well without losing too much foot space.

i havnt driven it to much so im not sure how for i can go on one tank, been fixin all the bugs to be expected with a freshly constructed toy,
