    Hi guys,

I have a right hand drive jaguar series 3 IFS. I am looking at putting this into my 1958 chevy apache. Obviously my truck is left hand drive so what does it involve to turn the jag IFS into a left hand drive?

(I have been told by an unreliable source I can simply unbolt the rack turn it over and re bolt up as LHD?)

Any information that you guys have regarding doing this swap will be a massive help. I have tried searching but to no avail.

    Hope someone can help!

    Thanks in advance

    Tim

Incorrect, just buy the LHD rack, it simply bolts right in. X-member brackets are universal. I know a fellow who bought a LHD 56 F100 and used a local RHD Jaguar F/E. He bought a LHD R&P, problem solved.

thanks for your reply, so assuming I have stripped out my original steering box and lower gear, what does the job involve? (assuming I also have a LHD rack now)

This would all be going into a chevy apache, so would I need to build a cross member? and could I hook up power steering?

any info on this whole subject is very helpfull!

    Thanks again

Use OEM Jag X-Member with spindles, upper & lower arms. Either solidly mount to frame or rubber mount as per OEM installation. If rubber mounted you'll need OEM Jag intermediate shaft with extendable universal joint to compensate for movement. Just bolt LHD R&P in and it's done. We do this type of conversion all the time down under, definite improvement in ride quality and drive ability.

Even a local RHD Ford sedan R&P can be adapted to save space and save weight. Cheaper sometimes than rebuilding Jag R&P, minor machining and fabrication is involved in this though.

I did assume the late 50s chevies and the same period fords are "similar" and that you can look at that seeing what you will have to do diffrently, i hope i am not to far away from the truth :)
Good luck and keep us posted.

I'd rework the dash, pedals and steering column and make a stock-appearing RHD Apache.

That would be another way to go. It might make driving the truck in the UK a bit easier too.

iv fitted jag to my 58 apachie and my 56 truck, you can get a left hand drive rack but there hard to find, you may want to try usa ebay? you can rubber mount them but mine are both welded
