Didn't Sanford or Jimmy Smith do an illustration of a Lark "air" wagon some months ago...ran in R & C or some other mag...??? If I recall correctly, it was plenny cool... R-
Ha ha, you guys have me all excited about this car now!!! At first, I was just going to stick with it, because its what I had. Now I'm actually getting pretty excited to get it set up and show it off!
The tint makes it look too "modern" to me although with all that glass it might be a good idea for summer cruising. I believe the missing chrome is all available NOS and pretty inexpensive. Does yours have the reclining front seat backs?
looks like you got a decent start there here's my old rust bucket just before I pulled the 259 and 3 on the tree to put in my T
here is mine, not a wagon but everything else is the same. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=529931
Hey Rudebaker, where can you buy the trim pieces? I've been looking. As for the tint, yeah, I'm starting to think I might skip that and spend the money on the side pipes!
Hey Noxided, I looked at your pics. NICE CAR!!! I love that dash! What kind of carpet did you use? I need new carpet, and I like the real low stuff you used.
Hey you may want to look at these kits http://www.automotiveinteriors.com/carpetcars/studebakers/stude.htm I just ordered a rod kit for my 1948 stude truck - they do not make a cut kit for it - I will let you know what I think Oh yeah the wheels are Americans - torque thrusters
Go to carnut.com and click on car pics index, studebaker, 1960, and you will see my sons lark wagon he has had for 18 years.
Here´s an idea - add quad lights and a peak over the top of them (or recess the lights), to give it a frown. Then do something with that bumper. Maybe swap in a more shapely one from another car. Looks a bit meaner anyway.
I put a 454 and TH400 into a '59 2 door wagon, pics on 'net under name of "deepnhock", I sold it to a young fellow in SC. email me for info on what fits and what does not.
I like how that looks, but I think that would be getting more involved that I plan to get right now. But, I'm sure MANY of you guys have said those words before! Ha ha!
A couple of you mentioned shaved door handles. I like how that looks, but how do you open the door after that is done? Edit: Nevermind....found out you need a kit.
IIRC Studebaker International has most of the trim, they picked up the remaining factory NOS parts and there were train loads of stuff. Sheetmetal, trim, upholstrey and on and on. I was going to save the trim off the one I scrapped until I saw their add and the prices. It just wasn't worth the effort to pull the trim off the front clip and doors and the wagon specific pieces on the rear were too trashed to save anyway. The wagon only pieces might be hard to find NOS but plenty of good used parts out there. If anybody ever tells you you can't get parts for a Stude keep walkin' because they don't have a clue!
I'm either blind, or they no longer have the trim pieces. All I can find are the trim clips. No actual stainless strips. The only one I need is the one that curves from the fender to over the headlight. All of my "wagon only" trim is fine!
I saw this Lark at a local Studebaker show. It has the sliding top. I would love to own it and do some custom up-grades, one cool car. You could make a slick four door truck, that would be a first.
I am not a fan of the quad headlight look ... I LIKE the grilles on the front that is me though, it is your car I agree with keeping the 6 It all depends on what YOU are going to do with the car, just enjoy it!
Ha ha ha ha!!! I actually told my wife, this is what Batman drives after he settles down and starts a family.
Yeah, I'm going to keep the front the way it is. I'm also planning to keep the 6 for the immediate future. As long as she gets me around town and to a few cruises, she'll stay in.
That would look cool...but probably more involved than I'm going to get with this car. I just want a fun driver.
Nice looking Lark. I suggest that you go to the Studebaker Drivers Club forum and let the folks there know what you are looking for. I would imagine somebody there would have the stainless you are looking for. I think red wheels with spider caps would look great especially if the car is lowered a bit. The Champion six is a good reliable engine. As was said earlier there are lots of parts available. Cathcart is a great source for stuff for that engine. What transmission do you have (I may have missed it if you have already mentioned this.)? Do not let parts be a problem. They are out there. Good luck and keep us informed of your progress.
