Look in last months Rod and Custom. All the insperation you'll ever need. And he's a HAMB'r! Todd http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/featuredvehicles/1105rc_1940_ford_coupe/index.html
Well done on the purchase Jamie. Btw - did you meet a bunch of school kids from BeaconHills College in Victoria last week at the War Museum? If so, one of them was my daughter on her school excursion
Perhaps I spoke spoke too soon. Just got an email from the owner in San Diego informing me it just lunched the engine, and my deposit is being returned So the search goes on.
Jamie....You can get another engine!!....if the Coupe is a good one don't p*** it up due to a bad engine!! Murph
Yep, haven't had a chance to speak in person with owner yet, it's a bit late, or early, in SoCal ATM.
Thats good, so all is not lost...LOL... post a pic of the car, I'm sure we can help with your decision....40's are KOOL! Good Luck Murph
To me, a blown engine isn't a deal breaker... Here is a thread to get you started. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=320256 Good luck, -Abone.
One of the Golden Rules of Hot Rodding is....Don't p*** up on a good deal for a '40 Ford Coupe just because of a blown motor.
I had a '40 coupe in1968, and always said it was the most beautiful car in the world. IMHO! I drive mine every chance I get. When I come out of the grocery store, there is always someone waiting wanting to talk about it. I've met people that I wouldn't have met any other way. If it is a cherry '40, an engine is no worries mate! It's easier to find an engine than to find a cherry '40 coupe
Owner has decided to keeep the coupe as finacially he cannot lower price, and I'm not willing to pay fiull price with blown engine. Have found another clean desert car, and am working on a deal now. Pics when I actually get this one on a ship!!!!
You think the owner blew the motor, or had second thoughts about selling? I love these body styles- hence the Signature. One day.......
Congrats on finding your 40. This is the one in my avatar. Still have it. It has transitioned over the 50 years I've owned it. Has LB interior.
OK, here is what I have settled on, out of Tucson. Last deal fell through as owner could not lower $$ with busted engine. I've ended up with a better car for me though. Originally rodded in 1961 with the addition of a '58 283 Vette SBC, owner went to Vietnam not long after and went MIA. Car sat in his mothers garage on blocks until 6 years ago, when current owner purchased it and put it back on the road. Car has never had a rust repair. Huge shout out to Metalshapes here on the HAMB for taking the time to carry out a real detailed inspection on this for me, appreciate mate, I'll swing by when I pick it up in August.
Great find--appears to be Folkstone grey--great color on a 40-just finished one this color. Can't beat a 40 coupe
here's the folkstone one just finished with my cloud mist grey one. Love the look of the maroon 40std--may do a std as my next one after the 40 woody is done for a friend.
Hello jimbob, I bid on that very car last year. Wound up with another instead. The motor is easily replaced, however if I recall the owner said it was a actual corvette 283. That motor if not badly damaged is well worth rebuilding. I am sure you will indeed enjoy driving the coupe. I really enjoy mine! ... Mickeyc
