This is Frank Papesh's War Wagon at Oswego Dragway on Oswego, IL.
It had a BBC with Hilborn Injectors and a turbo 400 trans on nitro.
This truck gave me my first smell of nitro in the spring of 68.

Bucksnort, Great shot of TRUE DRAG RACING AT LION'S. I am a member of NHRA which entitles me to a very boring National Dragster magazine that details today's rules entrenched racing. It is not just NHRA. At a recent race at West Palm dragway my friend Chris Bennet in the Pure Heaven altered ran a winning 5.93 and was told because he ran below the IHRA agreed limit of 6.00, all altered's would now be required to install carbon fiber brakes. Chris was bummed because he thought he caused more restrictions upon the class. Back when I was racing, the motto was to stay as safe as you can while going as fast as you can. A 5,000 dollar carbon brake system does not make you safer. As a driver, you can't tell between a 6.00 run and a 5.93 run. The name of the game is go as fast as you can and deploy the laundry to stop you. WAY TOO MANY RULES AND P.C. My 2 cents. Mike

Was an NHRA member for 40 years.Dropped out couple years back.Tired of same old crap.
The carbon brake deal sucks.I see where it will affect a bunch of teams.Don't think it will be any asset but what do I know.
Always get a tinge of jealousy when you guys talk about being at Lions. That was pretty much mecca to this high schooler.Got cracked on the back of the head numerous times by the nuns for reading hot rod books in school.
