Almost every week we see high dollar cars being stolen and their frantic owners posting on this forum. Oftimes it is mentioned that they might be on the way to the nearest port. Case in point in today's news that a high dollar custom two wheeler, stolen from a condo in Texas, has been amazing recovered in the Phillipines.

Thought it was worth posting as a cautionary tale now that the season is in full swing. Think about where and how you leave your ride, it could be in for some international travel if you are not careful.

"stolen from the parking lot" ???? Who leaves an $80K bike in a parking lot?? Glad he is getting it back though. Hopefully he will keep it locked up now.

wonder who the shipping company was, and if they would like to be sued?

this needs to start happining..or as we know already it will get out of control

I was made to understand the.."this sort of thing cant happen"..because of shipping paperwork and all other safe guards..what if that bike was a bomb? or some other nefarious device?

sound like the shipping companies better get on the ball..or they should be held liable for shipping stolen goods..period..nip in the bud

none of this shit would fly people if we made it stop

so much for home land security eh?..how they going to stop a nuke, if they cant stop a custom bike, or car....think about it

This is no surprise whatsoever. Think about it, a lot of the cars that are owned on here are worth more than the sum of their parts. And with all of the HAMBers who are outside the USA, there's clearly a huge demand for cars like this worldwide.

It's really nothing new, basically stolen cars end up one of a few ways... Cheaper stuff (OT Accords and Civics) generally get parted out, some stuff is stolen to use in a crime or for a joyride, that's usually NOT gonna be a Deuce roadster, that's gonna be a Taurus or a Camry. And high dollar stuff almost always gets exported, intact.

Ha, they followed me all this way????

Seriously, there is so much corruption here you can throw stuff in a container in the USA and ship it over here and nobody will open the container or ask a single question about what is in it.

Guys, there's a pretty easy way to recover your vehicle if it's stolen. And it's not all that expensive. Used to be LoJack was the deal, but technology has passed that by. You can install a real time GPS tracking system in your rod for about $500 or less, depending on the type and brand. It can be easily hidden, and it will let you know where your car is in real time every few minutes.

Here's just one example, but there are many others out there. Some have a remote disable available as well that can kill the ignition on an electronic ignition car.

With what we're all putting into our rods as time and money, $500 or so seems like cheap protection.

One source (but do some shopping!)

I'm not an expert by any means but when I do a search for "GPS jammer" a whole lot of websites come up with folks offering to sell them. I would think that this and similar cellphone jammers that they also sell would negate theft systems that rely on that technology.

Could be... assuming they know it's there. It's just another option, like interupt switches or a 12 gauge....:)
