I have to Replace my c-396 edelbrock dual plane intake oval port head on my 454. Whats a better option??? I have a crack where the threads for the heater fitting . and its cheaper to replace the intake around $200.00 than the fix around $400. I would like to know what has the better performance. Weiand or edelbrock. I am running edelbrock 750 cfm carb, mild blue racer cam. Full length headers, hei distributor, stock long block 73 454 with oval port heads. And 2 1/2 inch dual exhaust. In the ***le I said warrior but I meant Stealth. I also was looking at the Ofenhauser dual plane intake also

Does Edelbrock make a Performer air gap intake for oval port heads??? if so, then I vote for that one... :D

Todd, before you buy a new intake, bring it on over and I'll see if I can fix it. Didn't seem $400 bad from what I remember :D

Let's see a picture of your busted intake please.... I'm sure it can be repaired for alot cheaper than 400 sheckels....

I got the intake back on today. DAN did a bang up job of welding up my manifold. The intake was not cracked just the front half of the threads were gone. Since I dont have a heater in the car the easiest was to put in a aluminum plug in and weld it up. Dan does really nice work . He even cleaned up the manifold it looks like I got a new one. Once I got the timing straightened out. She fired right up. On my first attempt it was 180 degrees out , got a great big back fire. Took her out for a quick drive and guess what?? no anti-freeze on the front of the engine. Tomorrow I will drive her somemore so I can retorque the intake. Thanks again Dan.

Thats great news on the repair. Cheaper than a new one thats for sure. Anyway I would have said Performer RPM Airgap followed by the Performer RPM or the stealth. I have tried them all and the last two went the same with the air gap just picking up a little bit over the other two with no other changes.. They all liked a 1" spacer or even a two inch on the later two but I am yet to try a 2" on the air gap. All these are a great manifold.
I actually have the old Performer spreadbore type on my 454 56 Chevy and it runs low 11`s with pretty well stock motor just a fairly mild cam and stock heads with a 850 DP. Big convertor and low gears beacause this is what I had
Any way as you can tell I love dual planes on heavy cars.
