Well I had to move the boxes inside the garage today. What's up with the weather in LA lately. I did find two sets of hood hinges when I thought I had none. I hung all the body panels on the 53 a few days ago man they fit so much nicer than the ones on my old one. The neighbors are coming over asking about the car already. I'm excited about this one. I have had the 53 since I was 14 and just have a love/hate relationship with it. Looking at the nice frame all powder coated and nice and shiney makes me want to do all kinds of things. I talked to my brother and he said he remembered the blue kustom Henry J from when we were kids and he said he thought the Alexander Bros built it. But I have no pictures in LA but I think I might have some somewhere from when I was a kid and took them at AutoRama. So if anyone has pictuces from the late 70's of a blue Henry J Kustom at AutoRama in Detroit. Please post or let me know. If not I'm building it from what I remember. What do you guys think of instead of a black frame doing it in white? I'm thinking everything in dark navy blue metallic and white pearl. With a 49 Ford dash cut down to fit? I do have a 49Ford dash already also a 51 Ford Woodie dash that I could use. I trying to think what cars would have been in the junk yard around 1964. I do know my Uncle Jerry totalled a brand spanking new 64 Impala SS with less than 500 miles on it. Also the same year my pops had a 63 split window Corvette totalled out when someone ran a light when it was parked at the Hydromatic plant in Yspi. I'm thinking either the 303 Olds that Kaiser had the deal with before they back out of the deal or a 302 SBF.

Took The frame off the trailer by myself when I got home from work. I didnt realize how light it was so I wanted to see how thick the metal is or rather how thin it is. I also set it at the height that the 53 sits with flipped knuckles and two rear leafs removed. The frame looks nice even after 14 years of sitting in a garage and the 6 months it has been sitting outside. A few spots have some rust but over all it's nice. It's funny how much nicer a Cali car compared to the Michigan one is.
IMG_0377.jpg You can see the 52 sheet metal on the 53

IMG_0378.jpg You can see the body on the trailer and the frame. The Shoebox is out of site as well as the 53 HJ

IMG_0380.jpg Yup 0.102 of an inch. Wow less than an 1/8 inch frame and guys run stock frames in g***ers. How crazy is that?

I have gotten a few messages about the project. It's on hold till this little guy gets settled in. He gets the 53 on his 16th birthday so that one will be built now too. His name is Tyler he weighed 9 lb 4oz and is 21 inches long.

Looking forward to seeing more of your HJ build. I just have to share this with you though. I also have a HJ that is in the process of being built. I have a build post going on it also.
Your son is very lucky to already have his first car. My son is now 20 yrs old his name is Skyler he weighed 9 lb 2oz and was 22 inches long. He also is into cars. I was reading your post to my wife and she had to laugh:D about how close the two were at birth.
Anyways congrats on the little guy, have lots of fun with him as they grow up fast.

Hey, congrats on the new addition! Get that little guy some tools, then you can work on the HJ and give the Mrs. some rest time too!

  17. Now that's an update.
    Congrats.

The J will get done in time and the kid will be most enjoyable in time also. ;)

Picked up a rebuilt motor. House is almost done and car time is coming soon. Yes I'm putting a ford 302 in it. I would have loved to put a Oldsmobile motor in it like the plan was from the factory in 54-55 if they made the new model but when GM changed their mind so it didn't happened but I can't afford one right now so we are going with a Ford. Yes a Ford because my brother works for Ford so we are a brand loyal family. The deal was right.

I see you stated you found 2 sets of hood hinges in the boxes. We are in bad need of a right side one. Any chance of buying one?
