Here is a picture of mine from the early 70's. I'll get it back on the road when I have finished my pickup.
Jimbob - beautiful '40' Ford with some great history. My everyday driver is a '55' chevy that was parked for 40 years because my friend got killed in Vietnam in 1967 and the family wouldn't sell it until recently. Nice way to remember the past. The attached picture is my '40' Ford that I recently got on the road. Still have a little buffing to go and I'll put trim on. Fun to drive with a built 350 and a six speed trans. I hope to use it for long distance driving with the comfortable ride and interior (stock seat). Have fun with your car.
Mickeyc, the coupe above that I bought has no issues. I had actually placed a deposit on this one (below) owned by Truk here on the HAMB, but after replacing the clutch, he took it for a drive and the engine gave up. He returned my deposit, and I found the folkstone grey one on Ford Barn, last advertised in June, 2010.
Here's one I drive quite often, owned by my friend Bill Akin, Hermitage, TN. This car is a real hot rod survivor..as it was completed in 1980 (top 25 at the Memphis 1980 Nats). Big block Chevy with Weber carbs and three pedals (4 speed). Still draws a crowd everywhere she goes.
Bill Akins car was always one of my favorites, and cultivated my love for '40 coupes, although I've always prefered the standard over a deluxe.Bills car is so clean,it doesn't even look like it should run.I still walk over and look at it every chance I get.I was 10 years old the first time I saw it in 1981. Knew it was special even then. Here's my standard. It's my first car, given to me by my dad when I was 5 years old.Dad and I built it together when I was 15.
Hey metal man, thanks for the compliments...believe me Bill's 40 is DRIVEN everywhere you see it since 1980, often by me...never trailered except when he broke it in Columbus, but hell, that's another "Akin story"!!
heres mine. 40 dlx 42000 actual miles. pretty original with 1 repaint in the 60's I put in a 4 inch dropped axle and 15 chromies with 8.20s in the rear and 5.60s in the front Then last fall I dropped in a 331 caddy with a horne 4x2 hildebrandt vc's, I use an adapter to the stock trans. way more fun to drive now.
Jamie Thats a *****in ride you've got yourself. Well done!!! Funny, it seems as there are a lot of Aussies trying to buy cars from the US at the moment. Me included.
I love these cars, and would love to have one in my stable one of these days. If I did, it would probably look something like this...and have a real nasty Y-block in it
Have a look at Peter Vincents book "Hot rod an American Original" it has a short feature on Mr. Licks 40. It did have an Olds in at one time.
Nice bunch of 40's guys! Congratulations on the new purchase. Here's to many miles of smiles. Some pictures of mine over the years.......
Jimbob, Nice score! The one you chose couldn't be more perfect. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night until it arrives over there. Best of luck with it.
Thanks mate, owner is a stand up guy and is helping me out with A LOT of things with this car and driving it to B'ville. What are you chasing?
Trying to find a reasonable model A driver that'll get my **** into gear, so I get some work done to the one here, then offload it to buy the driver. Wrong way around I know, but a bird in the hand ......
Alright, you asked for it...here's the car that started it all for me. This is the one that ruined me for all time. This is my Dad's old '40 Ford Deluxe Coupe from back in the day. It had a '53 Merc flathead in it with a '39 Ford trans. It was supposed to be one of the baddest cars in Phoenix at the time. He also took it to the drags in Bakersfield at least once, and cleaned house there too. Unfortunately, the car was long gone by the time I came along, and these are the only photos of it...period. thankfully, the photos don't accurately reproduce the horrible green color the car actually was. By the way, if anyone knows what became of the car, let me know. It was traded to a used car lot in Phoenix, and never seen again.
And mine. First time out of the shop. No interior yet, but it's gettin there. Still lots of work to do.
How about our clubs 40 coupe? we've owned and raced it since 1960. It's ran everything from a blown 392 hemi (BB/GS back in the day) to a 454 big block chev for nostalgia racing now. This is how it looks in latest form in front of our clubhouse. Mick
