Greetings everyone A good friend of mine sent me the link to drag cars in motion. As I was checking out the pictures I came across the Hell on wheels wheelie pulling tank. (PAGE 3 PIC 7) In 1972 I was the N.C.O. in charge of the Second Armored Division ( 2nd A.D.) color guard and we had the pleasure of working (if you want to call it work) with Bob Perry several times. At the track in Greenville, Miss. where the "tank" performed, before the tank did it's thing the color guard marched out onto the track and uncased the colors, they then played the national anthem and we presented the colors. After the anthem played we cased the colors and we were done. It took longer for us to get our uniforms ready than it did to present the colors (tough duty but someone had to do it). In 75 they came to Corpus Christi,Tx where I was ***igned as a recruiter. I was able to get a baby blue Torino with black ARMY decals stuck on it to be the chase car. They say the M1 Abrams tanks are fast, I'll bet ya a dollar that Ole Hell On Wheels could smoke one.
Fun bit of trivia. In the late '70's I did fibergl*** body work and pit crewed for Bob Perry with his Death Star and the Galaxy II exihbition wheelstanders. before those Bob ran his Hell on Wheels wheel standing tanks. Before I worked for Bob I was at Ski's Corvette Corner with Dave (Ski) Baker and Richard (****) Leddy where we had a wheelstanding Vette. Good times.
