To all, great looking garages! I'll snap one of my small stall soon.

There`s no secret to having a clean shop other than making time to clean up and put away tools at the end of the night. The biggest thing I see is other garages full of debris from projects and swap meets cluttering up working space. Either sell it or store it elsewhere in a shed or barn. Made a big difference when I did just that.
Granted you can`t paint or grind in the same garage you keep shiny rides in but I try to do that kind of work outside weather permitting or move the good stuff out of danger. I also never have more than two projects at one time.Cuts down on that overwhelmed feeling.

I run a body shop and when I first took over you couldn`t get within five feet of any wall due to the stored parts and boxes from past work. Three days later the floor was clean and production went up over double. If I can keep a 22 bay body shop clean, a small shop is a breeze. A ShopVac
    is your friend.

Clean shops are productive shops and it shows you care about your work or hobby although I`m thinking I`m way past hobby phase as most of you guys are.

LOL, I put 'em away when I'm done - that way I can find them 10 minutes later.

Personally, I don't quite see how anyone can work in a junk pile. I need about four-six feet of clear space all the way around a car to work.

Sure you can, just keep it covered.

Agreed, I have three projects waiting right now -a '60 Pontiac wagon, a '60 Chevy wagon and a '48 Cadillac sedanet. Those are in sheds, awaiting the room in the garage...their turn will come soon enuff.

Yep, clean it up, put it away...museum pieces shoud be up on shelves out of the way.

Wish I could see the floor and/or walls and ceiling of my garage. Working on it now for 2 weeks off and on and have enough floor space in back corner for step stool. Be nice to have a clean top work bench on one side or the other, it'll come sooner or later.

Yep! Every time I work in the garage for some reason the countertops fill up right away. Even bought a roll around tray to help keep the tools in one place but that overflows pretty quick too. It does make it easier to put `em away when done. One big pile...

Used to buy toolboxes with a top box too but no more. I need the extra counter space.

Questoin for Dave MC: I like the bench idea, but what do you do when you've got junk on your bench, and you need a bolt or something from underneath you?

Boy Howdy, I was all happy that I had spent a couple of hours working on cleaning up my mess of a garage yesterday. Next weekend I think everything that moves is going outside so I can do some serious cleaning out and rearranging. The wife will be out of town all weekend so I will have plenty of free time.

I just move things around ,at the far end of that bench is a steel top bench that is stationary along with a steel plate & a vise, having those flip-ups also inspires me to cleanup after each project.when I was young ,working with my Dad.He used to tell me..."everytime you go to the toolbox for something, take something you are done with and put it away".
    finally sunk in.
