This is my new beater, it's a base model 69,000 mile 63 Fairlane with a 170 and a three speed. Nothing fancy but a decent little car despite some "fat lady's ***" down the quarters, and I've only found a couple pin holes in the driver toe board so far. The cool part is I traded a well beat 02 Cavalier I couldn't sell for a clean 86 LTD which I then swapped for the 63. When the owner said he was interested in swapping I was sold while still thinking the car was a patched up local example. Now the guy said it's a CA car with no rust... anything in Ohio forsale not totally dissolved is generally said to be from California, N/S Carolina etc. (enter state of choice) is caked in filler and rebuilt with spray foam, duct tape and drywall screws. I never even thought about it being true but everything looked good. While I'm sure it's hiding something somwhere it wasn't bull this time, the black plates were under the current tags registered last year.

So far I made some lift shackles and swapped out the shocks just to clear the 14's on the back. The six runs great but the rear main has oiled the clutch long enough it feels more like a junk torque convertor. I'm collecting parts to swap in a 302 and a 4speed but nothing certain yet for plans except to ditch the cop car paint job.

Back in the early 70's I had a '64 Fairlane. I loved that car, it came with a 260 V8/auto, it got 25 MPG or better on the freeway and had only 44K miles on it when I bought it. Drove it for a couple of years until I got bored with it and sold it to buy something else. Wish I still had it........

Nope. All Fairlanes were 5 lug unlike the Falcon/Comet.

Nice find. I really wanted a 63 but the 62 was to good a deal to p*** on.

I posted this on another site I frequent, but I don't think too many would mind if I put it here also..

I have my aunts 64 2 door sedan sitting in my garage that was bought brand new in 64. Original Black with red interior. I purchased it in 79. Have all the Crites stuff ie fenders, hood, valance, bumpers for it. My project when I retire. Here's a pic of the other Fairlane in my garage, my oldest son Pat's 63. Originally, we were going to rebuild the 64 for his first car, but upon opening it up, found some serious Pa. rot that had to be addressed. Knowing that it was going to take a while , we dug around and found the 63.. Came from Arkansas as a one Gandma owned car. Original copper with a white top. My good friend Jeff Sundberg painted it for us. No rot, just old lady dings. As you can see we used the Crites hood when we first refinished the car. Later, he got the bug and hung the fenders and bumpers to check the fit. Crites stuff iis worth the price. Now powered by a 347 and backed by a C4.

Thanks guys. I like the two tone in general but a few changes would really help. I'm thinking 60's street machine, a little nose down rake, a set of mags and maybe radius the quarters. I have a T-bolt hood and I found a Econoline axle but I'm torn on using them. I'm intending to tie the ch***is, swap in a 9inch and it will most likely get ladder bars. RileyRacing ya the VW's stroker would get this thing moving and I've been thinking about it. I just don't want the Beetle to get pushed back any farther but for the money of doing even a good mild engine I am considering using it and then start building something bigger.

I know there is a Fairlane thread and the Thunderbolt one already but if anyone has pictures of these cars with radius wheel wheels, 60's to early 70's street machine "day two" appearance or any 63 super stockers please post them.

Do you plan on keeping the two tone paint scheme like that? Mine will be the original viking blue poly, but I'm thinking black for the top to match the all black interior. Yours gives me a couple ideas.

My rears won't be radiused, but I plan to cut and raise the flange an inch, and roll the lip up and back down into the rear line.

    Thanks for the interest guys.

Havi, for now it will stay like it is. The white cowl top and mismatch window frames loose me and although I think there needs to be a better break on the quarters (trim line pinstripe etc) I really like the white on the wings. I want it black but thought about a gloss top/wings and a semigloss body. I think it might look too modern or trendy that way though. How about a light/dark blue split on yours?

Rat deuce, I've always had the automotive ADD plus with customer and friend's cars, most of my stuff is more than old enough but rather off topic. Such as the Jamaicain body 59 100-6 Healey, my 61 VW rag, the 53TD I just hammer welded up. The 68 Jag I have to work on if I want a clean 62 Thunderbird in payment. I also have a deal pending on building a full custom 36 Bentley but it's all smoke and bull right now. I had also been working for a guy on three 34 Packard customs but we ****ed heads alot, sorry All-Metal and Lacquer putty is not metal finishing. It's okay though when RM auctions sees the crooked pile he has turned a one of one 1108 into while trying to get not one but two clones built for "free" he is in for it..... I'm hoping I can get some pictures because some of it was still cool.
I'm back to working at my buddy's race shop so no more Packard bs or working until 2:00Am without warning or beer.:D

I'm still looking for any 60's SS or 63 street machine pictures.

    Thanks again, Dan

All the Fairlane wheels were 5 lug. The 13" wheel was only 62 and rumored, but never proven early 63.

Good looking Fairlane, I`m helping a Buddy with his`63 . We are building a g***er out of it . It`s been a race car for alot of years. Last we weekend we put the 3" balljoint spacers in and it`s starting to look pretty good. Good luck on your build. G***erman

I'm not restoring it as stock, as found it had 13's with 63 hubcaps that I think are or could be original to the car. 14x6's would fit but it would have been be very tight with the sagged suspension and off set differential without the t******* I did on the skirt tabs and wheel lips.

G***erman, sounds cool do you have any pictures?

I'm prepping a nine inch housing for it and have some tubing on the way to connect the torque boxes. I'm driving the 63 daily and while slow the six is a great runner. I also got my frist two races out of it, and lost both to NSH57's Flathead! My suspension measuring post swears revenge.... :D so we pulled the 302 out of the 64 the next day.

The wagon has always sat up rather high in the nose and now with the engine out is about at the highest I'd want either it or the 63 to be. I'm not sure if it has some sort of heavy duty springs on it or what but those springs and ball joint spacers might be the ticket.

    Thanks for the interest.

I agree, but I need to mock up the rear mags from the Beetle and decide. There was a tough looking 63 race car while growing up in Akron that I tried to buy several times with them done. My memory of it is much of what I'm going for.
