I never did like the Rear beltline of my model a. I got the bopdy with the top cut off(looked like they used an axe) and planned on using the quarters for a coupe made into a pickup.... I decided the body was to good to s**** and made it into a coupster.... Windsheild http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=277539 Frame http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=335443 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=579171 An now I cut it all up again because I never liked the coupster looking rear deck panel being so short. To make it look more like aa original roadster I decided to stretch the panel ahead of the deck lid. I hauled my car up to Dan Pate's Metalshapers Gathering and made the rear panel. I could have done it at my shop in several peices, but with Dan's Ekold (and lots of help from a good freind Leo Straley) I was able to make it in one peice. I used pictures from 37kid http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=587239 I got close. I didn't allow enough to make the straight flange on top of the bead, but that's not on a 28-29 and I'm close. I used a french curve to get the shape. And here's the dies I came up with. Here is the panels after I ran them. I'll post more when I get going on the side beads.
I made a panel for the upper left quarter today. It's a basic reverse curve, made with the e-wheel. I plan on welding the panel right through the center of the bead. I made dies to make a step. This is what I ended up with. Not sure yet If I like it. I'm going to trim it up and tack it all together so I can make the final panel just behind the door next. Then I should have a good idea what it's going to look like. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
