Hot Rods Short video & pics of my '30 Coupe in Germany

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Timo Power-Fighters, Jan 31, 2011.

  1. As we had a perfect sunny (but very cold) sunday in Germany, I took the chance to start my Coupe for the first time this year.

There's nothing better than a V8 sound on a sunny sunday afternoon!

I am located near Frankfurt/Germany, as I plan to officially register the Coupe in February/March here in Germany, I am currently working on the Cycle Fenders and on mounting the hood.

I am also planning to mount bias-ply's again, probably Firestone WW in 560/15 and 820/15.

    I'll keep you updated!

    Best regards,
    Timo

Cool Video, great sound and nice pics! Hope your neigbours in Frankfurt have been sympathetic with that great sound? :)

Nice to hear, that you go for bias-plys! Will you change the rims also for a more "traditional" look?
I always liked the unchopped-look of your coupe, only the shiny rims looked little odd to me:)

Good luck with the TÜV and keep us posted!

  4. Man, I love that interior and the white roof is a nice touch.

Really nice coupe! Thanks for posting.
I lived in Northern Bavaria for 3 years and never saw a hot rod. Good to see that there are some. Must be fun blasting past those Mercedes and BMWs on the Autobahn!

  8. Hi everyone,

    Thanks for the feedback!

@ Entlebucher: I will most probably also buy a 2nd set of steel wheels.
But at the moment I spend most of the money to make the car TÜV-ready...
Most probably I will pass the TÜV in February!

After this is done, I will mount Bias!

@ Beatnik: Here in the Frankfurt Area, we have probably around 15 rods (most of the are street rods, but the old style rods become also more and more popular here in Germany).

But for sure, you won't see many rods on the streets here in Germany, which is pretty sad...

I will ride my coupe as often as I can this season!

It definatly gets more attention than any other car....and it's much more fun to drive than most of the car's I have owned before.

    Rock n Roll

    Very nice! I want one.

  11. Bob Booths old coupe......!really nice and I like the Radirs too, keep them on it gives the coupe a slighty different feel to it. I had steels, caps and wide whites on my A roadster and was told I was gona ruin the look if I swapped them out for 5 spoke americans and white bands...trust me it's transformed the car!

  12. Went for a cruise.....DAMN how I love this car!

Great pictures! How's your "fight" with the german TÜV going on? Allready street legal?

  14. Hi Entlebucher,

the plan is to get the car officially street-legal registered within the next 2 weeks.
Yesterday, Mario & me worked 12 hours on the Coupe, replacing all relevant bearings + the kingpins on front axle, some work on the brake drums and starting to finish the cycle fenders for all 4 wheels, making some adjustment works on the hood, mounting the 32 Ford Grill etc... hopefully, we will be done with all work by next weekend!

I think it looks so much better with the 32 Grill....will also be painted gold, Hood will be mounted with the Leather Straps from Eric (Hot Rod Company).

    I'll keep you updated!

    Rock n Roll

  15. Nice car! And... proof that radials can be done right on a fenderless car. It's all about the proportions.

Take a DA to the sidewall and sand all the lettering off and your done...

    Wow really neat coupe!!

  20. I really like your coupe! What color of gold is it? Looks great with the white and chrome.

  21. Hi Bob & everyone else,

    thanks for your feedback!
@ Bob: I love the look of the Firestone WW and I am about to order a set of WW!

The last 2 weeks, my friend Mario & me were working a lot on the Coupe to make it ready for German inspection (TÜV) and to get it legally & officially registered over here.

Here is what we did so far:
Making old-style cycly fenders on the front, mounting the 32 Grill, mounting the 30 Hood etc...

Here are some pics, detailed story is available on my Blog www.power-fighters.de

How to start with the fenders:
Bought some steel fenders from tractor supply:

    Chopped them:

We removed the complete drums, backing plates etc., and drilled holes for the 8mm screws into the backing plates of the brake drums. Then, we used the 2mm stainless steel plates to make the mounting socket for the fender struts on the backing plates. Inside of the backing plates, we welded the M8 nuts. This is what it looked like after some hours and mounting everything together:

Next thing to do were the fender struts, we used 12mm stainless steel rods, welded them against the mounting sockets on the backing plates, and bend them:

For getting the car street legal in the short term, I will also mount the original bobbed rear fenders, next thing is to also mount Cycle Fenders on the rear!

We also started to mount the 32 Steel Grill and 1930 Hood:

Mounting the hood straps from Eric (www.HotRodLeather.com), perfect quality!

Front Fenders, 32 Grill, 30 Hood mounted and almost ready for the paint job!

    Waiting to get unleashed:

    I'll keep you updated!

    I am TOTALLY IMPRESSED !!!!
I too bought a really cool coupe a few years ago. I have changed a lot about the car and there are more coming. Most people would have been very happy with your car the way it was. The same with my coupe. You are changing your car and I am sure some will say you shouldn't. I hear that quite frequently as well.

I like the 32 grille; the front fenders look great already. I had to double take the rear fenders but by the second look I was getting a grin about the rear fenders. I like your changes................subscribed !!!

  24. Timo, wow bro, that is a beauty. The interior is one of the sweetest I have ever eyeballed. It just is so cool that we can connect with our hot rod pals from such a long distance. Best wishes on your fender project etc. Thanx for sharing your cool machine with us. Mario's S.D. is off the hook also. ~sololobo~

    quickly :D

  26. Alright, my coupe is now at a friends workshop where the official street inspection (TÜV) is going to take place this week....probably Friday...I hope everything works and I will pass...

    I'll keep you informed.

Last weekend I was on another US-Car Meeting here in Frankfurt...some nice few Hot Rods also joined.

Best new car in my opinion: Roger's 1930 Ford Model A Coupe with a BMW V12 Engine (out of a 1989 BMW 750i).
    This car ROCKS!

Roger is US citizen, has been living for many years here in Germany close to Frankfurt and built this rod completely by his own in the last 2.5 years!

Just amazing...custom made frame, 4inch chop and 6 inch channelled....electric sunroof and a really really good quality of all the parts!

I made a short video and will post some more pictures later!

    Rock on
    Timo

Good luck with the TÜV Timo! Maybe you need a bottle of Schnapps to convince the inspection engineer;)

I can remember this cool V12-Rod! Thanks for the video. Pete published also some Videos on Youtube during the build:

  29. @Grits, Thanks, I also followed the building thread of your coupe, looks just awesome!

We were working at my friends' Mario place, it's his Garage.
He built the `34 Sedalivery and is currently working on a '36 Chevy, this is also the car which is parked in the Garage.
The '36 is a complete frame-off restauration and rebuild. I will post some pictures of it.

    @ Entlebucher.... we will see....damn, I just can't wait 'til Friday :)

Here some more pics of Rogers V12 Coupe, Marios Sedalivery and some other cars from last weekends US Car Meeting here in Frankfurt:
