Well after many screw ups, re-do's and mind changes my pickup is finally finished. Bought the truck ***embled in primer as a "mechanically restored" truck with a super straigh rust free body. Well, after putting a few miles on it (and I do mean a few) I quickly realized I had a few problems :). I thought maybe I'd get away with setting the time correctly, fixing the exhaust leak and changing the throw-out bearing but that was far from it. The new br***works radiator wouldn't cool my motor. So I pulled it out, pulled the head and pan and pulled the main caps to check the babbitts. Well, the piston slid out of the cylinder and onto the floor (NOT GOOD)...and so did the other 4. Well the cylinders were a hundred over with stock rings and the cylinders were more like ovals. .030 smaller at the bottom than the top. Lots of play in the crank etc. Well, I s****ped the block and somehow that same weekend found two PERFECT short blocks, crack free and were only .030 over stock. 6.1:1 compression head, touring cam and the whole nine yards later I have one sweet, very peppy motor. I put a S10 5 speed kit in it, powder coated the wheels, new interior and top (that came with the truck), new brakes and painted the truck...easy now on the ribbing, with Rustoleum rattle can. The body and paint budget went to all new mechanicals. :). You know, say what you want but I color sanded between each coat and knocked off the shine and I love the finish. Also, updated my distributor to and FSI and highly recommend it. My buddy did the B dizzy with the centrifugal andv. rotating ***embly and I went electronic. Both work great. Still breaking in the motor. Going to be my daily driver. Believe it!

Couldn't have done it with out the help of Jerry and Grant Baker from Antique Auto parts of KY. First cl*** guys that build motors right and are very reasonable.

Man that is cool. Say what you want, but if your budget for paint is nil, Rustoleum puts out a wonderful product. Flows nicely, thick and great color.

It really does. I have always used Krylon but Rustoleum was cheaper and buffs out so much better IMHO.

    That looks great!
Many people make fun of Rustoleum, but even it is a better paint than what they rolled out of the factory covered in...

Wood color in bed provides a nice contrast to the paint, great looking truck!

Nice to know the truck is not going to be a trailer queen, what's the point in building 'em if you don't drive and enjoy 'em.

If I remember correctly it was about 22 cans +-. I really screwed up the first few coats and had to start over though. I considered it "paying tuition".

Your pickup looks great! And dont get me wrong, I dig it, but at 22 cans of rusty you could've bought real paint. Just sayin...but nice work!!

Looks good. I have used rustoleum, but in the quart cans for a spray gun it says for reducing use mineral spirits or acetone if needed. I am sure the drying time is a lot longer because of no added hardener, but once dry it's bullet proof, and hard to sand.

22 cans of paint at $3.49 a piece is $77. I don't know what kind of paint, reducer, thinner and other materials you can buy for $77 but hey, what do I know...I'm just a rookie. appreciate the compliments

take it to a model A restorer..he'll swear that either A, it's well preserved original paint or B, it's an older restoration. either way, you can beat the price or the look, well done.
