301 Pole Car make front page of the Richmond Times Dispatch two days in a row plus a great online video in the news Metro Section http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/2010/jul/12/a-sign-of-the-times-22614-vi-11198/
BTTT How does a guy in Texas sign this pe***ion? How does a guy in Texas get all of his car friends and all of his relatives to sign this pe***ion?
We've made the paper Monday - Tuesday & Today Thursday Today there was a private meeting with the owners and the county (thanks to the heat) Breaking News The 301 Pole Car must come down for owners to obtain their Certificate of Occupancy. However, there is good news the board will support a proffer amendment which will allow the car to be restored and reinstalled at a new height of 16' (if we pay more it can be higher) We will still need a structural engineer to either approve the existing structure or design a new footing with proper mounting. This is going to cost a big fee to the county of $2,500 for the paper work. Still Runnin Magazine is pleading for your continued support and is accepting donations for the 301 pole car! ....Or services such as engineering, concrete for new footing, design, restoration of the pole car, ect. Please Continue to spread the word and email lea@stillrunnin.com

Told you. It's all about the money. Hanover is all about hiding about behind the bible and the checkbook.
This lousy part is that the original site of the 301 pole car zoning has not changed due to any of the new construction! It is what is was! Further, the owners were strong armed by the planning committee to force them to take it down or No permits would be issued to begin construction. Excuse #1 "It didn't meet the look of the new 301 corridor" Fast forward ... Now, to get the C/O they still have to take it down, despite Still Runnin's rally with GREAT community support in keeping the little crosley on the pole. After the first news article release after my interview with the Richmond Times, 100's of phone calls and emails were made to the county. They didn't like that at all! HA! Imagine that! Then the promise that SRM was coming to their little meeting with over 1,000 supporters they called the owners and called a private meeting Thursday and Wa'La' we can keep it, get your check book out! Yup your right its all about $$, SOB'es. So $2,500 in fees for paper work will allow us to take it down, refurbish it, restructure a new footer for its new face lift to go back up! Still Runnin Magazine is now on a new mission, a landscape mission to sell engraved bricks with names of the towns people that would like to continue to help in this expensive adventure to keep the pole car in our aireal sites. The brick will become a walk way to the walk up to the landing of the new pole cars stand and all around the base. If anyone knows an engraver of bricks please p*** them on to me. lea@stillrunnin.com
Awesome! Just unbelievable what you are doing. Look into the mirror and tell yourself that you are making a difference in your community despite the hurdles that government keeps throwing at you. An engraved brick? Never seen one that I remember. Can one actually engrave a brick? Just asking. When you find out, PM me cost and I'll pony up for a few bricks.
Just think how cool it will be for the grand kids to walk up a walk way and see that their dad's or parents name are on a brick, I also will see about having a little historical plaque with the story of the pole car now that we have made the rescue. I am very pleased about the outcome, altho expensive adventure to come, we still won! Thank you for the kind words!! In Daytona Beach they have engraved bricks on the boardwalk of a historical message. In New Smyrna they have engraved bricks on the side walk going to the beach - these are fun bricks where anyone can buy one and do a In Memory or a marry me brick, very cool! Think Hollywood Star - just not as elaborate, LOL I have a few leads, I'll let you know how it goes
The little Crosley may come down as early as this weekend, waiting to hear the engineer's time frame. The first design has been submitted from Master Builder Marty Martino Stay Tuned as the good news rolls in!
Check the Richmond Times - we may make the paper again. The gal that interviewed me a few Saturdays ago was in attendance at the county meeting last night and seemed pleased to see me there making my appearance to show that the 1,000's of signatures I have were indeed real and that I was the acting representative for the people that were interested in the pole car's future - so maybe we'll get another write up about how the community wants the 301 pole car to stay ?? (Which if you've been following along the 301 pole car WILL STAY) It will come down, BUT it will go back up! I am on a few missions and could really use your help, now listen up, this is not all that hard, LOL, I am collecting old photos of the car from back when and stories that folks remember about the pole car - whether it was a trip story, etc. All the photos and stories and REAL history of the pole car's life like who's car was it, who painted it, how many were there, etc. will be do***ented by myself the Wayne Lawhorn who is the son of the man who put it there to begin with. I will then lay the book out and have it printed, I do not know how many pages it will be yet (waiting for all pics and stories to be submitted) WHY ? Cos it will be kool ...... that's why. Plus I will sell an area in the book for folks that want to help the Crosley see another 100 years .. I will have pages alotted for families or individuals and business to have their name printed in the book as supporters of the pole car in text format / not ad format. The book is about the pole car not ads. (stay tuned for suggested donation fee) This will allow me to print the book and then sell the book as a keepsake to raise the funds we need to refurbish the Crosley. The Crosley will be brought back to its Vintage look. This and the engraved brick walk way and gardenscape brick platform (that we will also be selling to supporters) should help us get it underway nicely. Thank you to all of you for following the Saga of the 301 pole car! Please email me at lea@stillrunnin.com with any pics and or info and or donation you may desire to make.
For your Saturday afternoon reading - muster up some pics and stories you guys, I know a few of you out there have some ........ lea@stillrunnin.com is where to send them.
<!-- / icon and ***le --> <!-- message --> On a gloomy Monday morning, August 2nd, 2010 The 301 Pole Car, the little Crosley that Could is Safe and Sound and Down! The team of engineers under John Sorrell at Broofield MNW's watchful eye did an amazing job taking the ol' gal down off her pole where she has sat watching over Route 301 traffic since the 60's. I'm sure that the Super Crosley left the construction site wondering what had just happened? Had it just been pulled out of retirement life? The 301 pole car will be seen in a new light after Master Marty Martino, head designer of the Crosley gives her a welcomed body m***age and face lift! The Little Crosley on a stick will be hoisted back up over historic Route 301 in the near future more beautiful than ever in all her vintage glory. Stay Tuned to Still Runnin Magazine for more news ... BTW, John Sorrell donated his time to the cause! Thank You a TON John and Team of engineers !
Aug. 3rd Richmond Times Dispatch reports http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/2010/aug/03/pole03-ar-359006/ The More I read what the paper reports and talking to some of the community there is much History with the 301's Crosley ... as well mistaken facts. Still Runnin is collecting photos and story recalls for the little book that is already in its creative stages of production - feel free to jump in with your stories, facts and photos to be included in the little Crosley that Could's new book being worked on together by myself, Lea Dunham & Wayne Lawhorn the son of the man who put the Crosley up there in the beginning. The Little Crosley That Could ........ Stay!
Well, the long held adage about you can't fight city hall has crashed and burned in this case,,, A lot of dedicated people and who really care about keeping a small part of automotive history alive,,congratulations to all involved. HRP
For being in Hanover County, this is really turning out better than I expected. No doubt to all of the hard work being done by Still Runnin and like-minded persons. Any ideas on new look for the Crosley? Going to have Atlee on the side? or.....? Just wondering. Congrats on a job well done so far.
Yes the Crolsey will sport new paint and the Atlee Auto name for sure. The idea is to bring the ol gal back to vintage form, we submitted a 2 -tone color theme, but one of the owners was not to keen on the color choice. So color has been undecided as of to date. Marty is due to come inspect the car and make me a "to do" list in the order things should be done and material and parts we need, like a propellar. for her nose. Then the fun begins to see who can offer what service to the Crosley on a donated time therory. I can not say for sure, but I have a feeling most automotive related folks here in our county will be excited to share in the refurbish of the Crosley.
More Exciting news ... Atlee Auto has located a Twin Crosley in CA. The Twin is being shipped to Mechanicsville, VA to be a parts car to run around town. Pretty neat stuff, If the little Crosley only new the car'motion it has caused, he he Please send photos and stories for the little Crosley book
Dennis doesn't like the color? What was the proposed color? I'd make it as bright as possible so as to bring business into the shop. Pink?
The Twin Crosley ships out Monday from SO-CAL making its way across the U.S.A Still collecting photos and stories
Atlee Auto, owners of the 301 pole car are moving this weekend from their old shop to infamous 301 pole cars territory. The new facility is amazing and will be open for bizz Monday. Crosley update: a list has been made and its face life has begun
Sunday Morning Update: The Yellow Crosley on the Pole's face lift has begun, Master Builder Marty Martino has dropped the bumpers, stripped off the Chrome for cleaning, bumpers have gone off to a shop for re-chroming. A sand blaster / soda blaster is next up (so far no one has been decided) The color choice looks to be decided on Red and White. The Twin CA Crosley is now at the new Atlee Auto, I'm sure sharing tales with its Twin brother about the trip from CA to VA I believe I overheard CA Crosley say that it was happy to finally be pulled from the retirement life and looking forward to getting back to work running up and down 301 and around town as a go get the parts car for the new shop. The old Atlee Auto structure is NO more, nothing left but earth, Walgreen's soon to be in its place
Attention 301 Pole Car supporters! Nov. 23, 2010 - 7pm The Board of Supervisors public hearing for approval of the Crosley to be set back on its rightful pole on 301 (at the all new Atlee Auto Service Center) is Tuesday, Nov. 23rd, 2010 at 7:00 pm.
