Art & Inspiration OT: Look what I just picked up! There are still good honest people out there!

  1. I noticed an old farm house down a dirt road near me that had a couple old Tokheim gas pumps sitting by a barn. I knocked on the door today and asked the owner if he would sell them to me. He response was,"I didn't pay anything for them, so I'd feel terrible making money off of them from you. You can have them. " He got them from a local grain coop. He even helped me load them and after a little b.s.'in he told me he didn't get out much b/c he gets terrible headaches....but he said cheap whiskey helps the headaches go away. I asked him how about a bottle of Crown for helping me load these. ......You shoulda seen the smile on his face!...He's got a ton of out buildings....It might be smart to bring him the 1.75 bottle instead of the normal size and ask if he's got anything else!!!!!:D

Awesome! I've been looking for some early 60's late 50's pumps myself.

    Maybe offer a couple 1.75's :D

Every station I worked for had those in their drives.

  12. I just went back to his place to bring him some "Medicine" and he was gone....probably checking fields(his 4 wheeler was gone) While I was looking for him though, I spotted a '54 Chevy 5 window 6100 flatbed truck that is super solid. It had a sweet Visor on it and a really cool lookin custom chrome grille guard. Never seen anything like it. I wanna give him the bottle in person so I can ask him about the '54

That's neat you got 2 that match. It would be cool if you built a island with a air meter, old overhead light, etc like an old filling station.

Cool pumps. I was at my wife's grandparents farm a couple of weekends ago and they have one like it. I asked gramps about it and he just said "what the heck would you want that for and besides I still use it" (farm diesel).

That's cool. Proves that one man's junk is another man's treasure. I dig the pumps.

  25. can't be to old, it would say Ethyl instead of premium lol. seems like we lost Ethyl in about 1974

  26. He had told me the pumps were used at a local grain co-op. Out here in west texas they will use these things till they die. There's 6 gas boy pumps still being used at a cotton gin about 20 mins from my house. I stopped one time to ask about them and they looked at me like I was crazy. They said they won't get rid of them till they stop working. So the regular and premium labels were probably put on in the 70's like you said. The Tokhiem 300 dates to around 1957-1962
