  1. Drag cars only are a different story, on the street I agree.
What brake set up do you have on yours

one little phillips screw hold the pad to the caliper you have to hold the pad from spinning the piston in the caliper and tighten.i guess heat cause it to loosen up and when i stop the pad ripped out of the caliper .i now have it lock tited but when the pad wears down their wont be much to grip to hold it to remove the screw, ill find out soon i drive mine alot. they stop better then no brakes but after losing a pad coming to stop behind another car i lost faith in them to always work

I've been running them for a couple of years as well. I run Airheart brakes on mine. Coker offers several different 18" m/c tires that fit.

When I first started to run these brakes, I too also broke a few brake pucks as well....I also made a few soup bowls out of the discs stopping @ the top end @ the drag strip.....I quickly learned you should alway's check your front brakes, pull the front wheels ''fairly quick and easy to do'' and inspect....They are not made for the everyday hard core use and need a watchful eye to protect yourself and others........I had to learn how to apply the brakes @ the drag strip....I run a Wilwood discs on my rearends on both my Truck and DDS........I can stop my Truck so far after going through the traps @ 129 mph........I also logged many street driven miles w/ this setup...I also learned to carry a spare disc and pucks when going to the track...just in case......Littleman

The lesson I learned w/ the airheart brakes is to avoid the speedway pucks. Generic, too small, & even the hard ones tear shit up. The soft ones don't last. The orig. airheart pucks are pricey but superior.

Also remember.....m/c tires aren't designed to be turned w/ a steering wheel. They are designed to be leaned into turns. That said, ya gotta sneak up on the toe setting so they don't scrub. Easy enough, just minor tinkering.

Those Cheng Shin tires freak me out. They seem unsubstantial....like cheap rubber bands. I felt Like I was gonna drive right out of them. Find a better tire.

I'm not running the radir's but here's my take on brakes. I wasn't real big on what's offered for spindle mounts. I built my own set up with wilwood calipers and rotors. The only part I needed machined was the hat setup.

I haven't used these yet but I'm sure they're overkill for my truck.

  15. Hey Mat, its the hat that makes it work, any more pics or link to the info
    Thanks

EDIT: spent some time on your build thread Mat, holy crap that's nice.
Saw some info on page 18 about your brakes, do you have any break down of the set up, intricate details that make it work?

  16. Those small airheart calipers? Never had one apart or in my hand so now im kind of curious on the pad/puck/disc retention. Similar size and style motorcycle calipers generally have 2 pins in the outermost corners to keep the pad from moving. This pin is captured in the caliper and unable to move or change position.

The airhearts and wildwood only have 1 Phillips screw to hold the brake pad? Is this correct?

yeah 31vicky.....thats how the brake pad fits in, it does say on the info that came with my wilwood calipers that the pads need to be glued in as well with loctite 242.

also...thanks guys for the nice comments on my car...i know its a little off base for this forum, but i feel it kinda crosses the boundaries a little.
im just waiting for the 2276cc 48IDA'd magneto'd motor to get it finished....it should be good for high 11's or low 12's at the track......street legal too though!

then i can really get going on the 29 coupe!

The hat is just a 1/4" plate. I had them cut into 8 x 8 squares. I did a rough center and drilled the holes to mount them to the rotors and then cut them into a rough circle. A buddy of mine found center off the outside of the rotor and bored the ID on his bridgeport. Lastly he put the hats on a lathe and cleaned up my rough cut OD.

The calipers are used willwood dynalites that I found at the swap meet in Canton. I bought new rotors in Canton also. I believe this stuff is pretty standard circle track stuff. I bought new O-rings and pads at summit. I used 3/8 plate to make the calipers brackets. I got real lucky and the offset worked at perfect.

    The rotors

  19. Ok more specific question, how is the spindle mount rim and rotor mated?

My wheels weren't drilled for rotors when I got them. They did have a nice big area to mount the rotor though. My buddy just set the hat on them and drilled and tapped 4 bolts holes in the wheels.

Where are you at? If you're close enough you're welcome to come over and take a look.

Mine! with brembo 11" vented discs and wilwood calibers. Tires are vintage 5-25/5.50 / 18 4 ply U.S. tires. Need to get skinnier MC tires.[IMG]

I'm using the the Hurst/ Airheart set up, I have a pedal for my rear brakes and the fronts run off a hand brake, I'm my own proportioning valve. They aren't the best for stopping power but they do the trick. The hand brake on them makes sitting at lights and rolling through a show easy.

I really dislike the look of the front tires though... I don't believe they make an 18" Avon Speedmaster???

  27. those look real nice john! i ordered a set the other day, cant wait till they show up

  28. Anyone know how much static weight the Radir spindle mounts can support? It's not mentioned on their website.

Could I run them on my 354 Hemi-powered '28 Tudor? I don't plan on popping any wheelies ;)

  29. 1300+ lbs each for the wheel that info came from wintec Fab and Radir.
Tires are the limiting item. 354 w 671 in my Vicky.
