So in keeping with my "save it from being scrapped" mind set I picked up a 31 slant window fordor (Murray? right guys?) that was just the shell. It had the floor cut out, a butchered firewall, and rear fender wells cut. Basically it had been shitboxed at one time in it's life. I'm not a fordor guy but man I gotta say the rooflines are pretty cool and as close to a 32 as I will ever be able to afford. The flush fit doors are kinda nice too. I've also got a hammered (like a cow kicked the hell out of it) 29 body that is sitting on 32 rails. As I was pondering the "should I fix it or sell it" 29 body question I started messing with MS paint (because I can't photoshop (chop) anything) on the 31 fordor. I did a little stetch on the doors and blew out the rear door for a slant tudor. I kinda liked it so I started a search for some Vicky doors and grabbed a workable set today. So Vicky doors should get me the shown door to window aspect ratio. I like the idea of putting it on my already pinched and bobbed 32 frame. So watcha ya think? It's possible to build but does it fall into the "just because you can doesn't mean you should" catagory? Terry I'm trying to get the resized pictures to load
X3 I fall under the keep it from getting scrapped mantra myself, even though it gets me in hot water, lol.
You still here? Ya ought to be out there by it dreaming up what you’re going to do to it... Or sitting in the cab on a cut down bucket making engine noises (every single one of us still does that, don't let em lie to ya), or taking measurements so you can build it to fit you... it's not a question IF or SHOULD you build it, but HOW and WHEN.
build it. or you could sell it to me, I've always thought that would be a cool front end for a coupe.
Great concept. The only change I would make is to reshape the rear contour of the quarter window. Right now they look like they're fighting the overall flow. Shouldn't be too hard to improve. I found a '31 Vicky rear bustle section out in the toolies years ago so I sacrificed a slantwindshield fordor to complete a steelback Vicky body. There's something sexy about the lines, eh? Not '32 but then again not everything has to be '32.
Somebody local took one and shortened and chopped it into an extended pickup cab, he got the lines and proportions down right and it looks pretty good.
Oh, I'm into it and I have yet to toss out any vintage tin....and I mean ever. I'll buy $500 worth of parts to save a $100 cowl just to put it back into circulation. I'm like a church for old car parts. I offer salvation for wayward tin. Maybe I can get a tax exemption since I lose so much money doing it.
OK heres my 2 cents. 4"/5" roof chop. Lumpy-cammed anything, as far as an engine goes. 9" rear with hairpins or bones and a cross spring. Dropped 'beam and hairpins or bones to match the rear. 16" Ribs and blocks or 165 and wide stones. Put them on steelies, wires or Halibrands. Basic 4 point cage. A mean, basic, down n dirty sedan. If only I could build my own as fast as I can tell someone else to build theirs!!!!! Cheers, Stewart.
Yu are going to turn the 4 door into a 2 door and drop it on deuce rails? hell yea do it, just because you can and it is a very smooth idea. or send it to me and I'll give it a whirl just because I want to prove that i can. Do it ricky tic.
Put it out in front of your house with a sign- FREE TO THE FIRST H.A.M.B. MEMBER. I bet everyone loves that idea, except you. Sorry, majority rules.
