OK, I just got a flywheel and torus for an early (55-59) Hydramatic. The guy I got it from swears he unbolted it right off the back of a 265 Chevy V8. This is the second one I got like this. But it will not bolt up to any Chevy small block crank I have. It has a smaller center hole and the bolt pattern diameter for mounting it is smaller also. It has 6 bolt holes and 3 dowel pin holes. Any one know if there ever was a small block v8 with a different pattern? Or what's up with this?

SBC cranks were the same on the rear flange from 1955-86. Have you held it up to a 235 crank?

The small block chevy hydramatic flywheel is smaller than all others. The standard Olds-Pontiac-Cadillac etc had 145 teeth and was about 14.5" diameter. If yours is that size it's not for an SBC. I think the chevy was 139 teeth but I'm not sure.

  4. If the 265 had a TURBOGLIDE trans then it will have a different flange on the crank and will not interchange. (very rare). I have been working on vehicles for over 40 years and have only seen one (1), and I owned it......garage car.

Turboglide engines required a special pilot bearing if converting to standard shift, but the bolt pattern was the same.

    That is correct!

Turboglides, IIRC were introduced in 283 equipped Chevys in 57. Sure this was the last year of the 265 in a Chevy car, but I believe Turboglides needed all the power/torque they could get. They were never used behind 235's either.
