Yeah...dude's just painting his car. Good for him. Probably needed it. edit: I seem to recall a lot of other threads on here where cars from around the same era were rolled out of the garage in original condition for a refresh. (one was a late 50's caddy). Lots of kudos and wishes of good luck. But when a guy does the same thing with an old vette it prompts a bunch of monkey shit tossing.
I don't recall seeing anyone "disgusted" that he is not making it a gasser. I like gassers and I like 'Vettes. Put them together and DAMN! There ya' go.
This is probably the case, the pictures are deceiving and we are not seeing how bad it is. I don't get the bitch'n comments, people were just stating opinions, not criticizing. I think people read these forms and take things different then what the poster intended.
Seriously a stock repaint? really? blah blah wahhhhhhhh.... x2 seriously these nancy boy newbs have no idea what flaming is....
hahahahahahahaha! the comments about vehicle selection kill me and then the tension flairs. sure can tell somebody needs a diaper change!!
I respectfully beg to differ. 57 and earlier were painted with Dupont "Duco" nitro-cellulose lacquer. 1958 and later were painted with DuPont "Lucite" acrylic lacquer.
I thought that was correct. What some may not realize is that The National Corvette Society Encourages the owners NOT restore their vehicles. Judges are told don't mark off heavily for condition, if it's an original car. They prefer it's left as is with all the imperfections and wear. That way owners wont feel obligated to restore them. It's a shame if this car was close to being presentable that it was repainted ,but were are only looking at pictures and not up close. It's still a beautiful car .The body looks pretty damm nice for being 50 years old.
It's his car to what ever. The painter is doing his job. I like my 56 vette to show it's age (like me) and we say it loud and we say it proud! To be truthful I have more damn lines and cracks then the car. Thanks for your post man.
One day there will be a post or a car on the HAMB that makes everybody happy. Then the world will end.
thanks for the comments, It was time for a repaint. The owner had it repaired a couple of times and the paint was not matching in a couple areas,it bothered him .It is a fun project though.
Here is a breakdown of process and products 1.remove chrome and trim 2.strip car with 80 grit 3.repair small cracks with Lord Fusor 100EZ 4.gel coat car 5.block with 120 grit 6.prime and block car 7.paint car with waterbourne Ermine white 936 8.cut and buff car
I seriously doubt that the owner of the 'Vette gives a rat's ass about what any of us think about his paint job or how much he drives the car.
Belred, thanks for listing the materials you are using. Anybody on here doing a Vette, no matter what final state, has to prep and paint it. 1. Before the Fusor 100 in the cracks, do you open them up or grind into the bottoms? 2. After the Fusor 100, do you apply filler or other material? 3. After the gelcoat, what primer do you use? Any high-build? 4. Do you use a sealer? Thanks, your expertise is appreciated.
