I have an opportunity to buy a complete flathead out of a 52 ford pickup for $400. What engine code should it be and is it worth that money?(assuming its not cracked) It runs fine, and comes with a four speed truck tranny. What do you guys think??

8rt cast on the heads and oil pan should have large clean out where oil drain plug goes.Lot of them out there runing around with car motor replacements over the years but the same basic motor.Sounds like a good price for a running flatty .The tranny will have granny gear for first and are good truck trannys but not good hot rod as you have to double clutch to shift without grinding.I have three F-1s and none of them had the 8rt heads,8ba car heads were on them but thay are a little higher compression.I would buy it.

Try to talk him down a 100 bucks... The tranny's worthless, you could run it but you would be a lot happier with a 3 speed over the truck four speed, Save the doghouse though. That makes a great adapter for other types of trannies to be mated up to the flattie. The guy to talk to about that would be Andy here on the Hamb. Other than that buy it, Flatties rule!
