If it is a 194,230 or 250 all you really should need to know is what the tooth count on the flywheel is along with what bellhousing it has.

I can probably find out what the casting numbers mean when I get home but that won't be for four hours.
I just got this in the mail the other day http://www.amazon.com/Chevrolet-Inl...=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1305151721&sr=1-5 and it is full of info on these engines.

Here is a link full of block casting numbers and I don't see anything remotely close to the number you are showing. All of the numbers starting with 34 are on 26/27 Four cylinders.

    Yours should most likely say
    328572 Chevrolet 73-76 250 = 7
    328575 Chev/Buick/Olds/ Pontiac 68-84 250 = 7
    328576 Chev/Buick/Pontiac 68-76 250 = 7
The dash 7 stands for 7 main bearings.

H 28 4 means either August 28th 1964, 1974, or 1984. Look at the flat machined surface where the distributor goes into the block, should be one or two number sequences stamped there. post them and we can help you figure it out.

328575 is probably what the casting number is, they can be very hard to read sometimes...

    Second line down.

Pretty much the same one sitting in my 48 right now even though it has over 200K on it and is beyond worn out.

displacement isn't relevant to starter choice. You need to know if it is a 153 or 168 tooth flywheel, and if you are using a stick or automatic. Just like getting a starter for a V8.

The stamped code next to the distributor is going to be more usefull in identifying what it is.
