Stupid ash trays

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 60olds98, May 9, 2011.

  1. Hey, I have a '60 Olds and can't figure out how to get the ash trays out of the dash. It's probably simple but I can't see it. Any help out there?

Try pushing down on the but tab. and pull out at the same time. Works for most of the older cars

  3. They swing down to open, rather than pulling straight out so pushing the tab won't do it. Anybody with a '59 or '60 GM would probably have the same style ash trays. Any ideas would be appreciated.

  4. Spring tab has to be pushed up if I remember right.

Couldn't have said it better. the butt tab is usually the latch for the Ashtrays. Push down on it with your thumb as you swing the ashtray back towards you.

  8. A chevrolet from that era you open the ashtray ( it swings down) then puch the but tab (it should be round) and swing the ashtray farther down then pull it out. The whole colored part comes out.

  10. You may need the ash tray removal tool P/N SA-14099 and if you can't find it by part number here is a picture [IMG]

Try squeezing the ash tray together, maybe it's tweeked from years of in and out. My 61 had the same prob... I squeezed it hard and it came out.

Oh, I just don't like the sound of THAT! :)

  17. I didn't squeeze it, but I yanked on it and it came out. Thanks for all the suggestions-even the jokes! I almost used that hammer......
