why wont they let you on the insurance? are you piggy backing on your pop's insurance?

edit - you might not want to brag about the car at all... dont call it a hot rod, in the eyes of an insurance company, 16 + fast car = disaster. just say it was cheap and old and that your dad wanted to save on Registration fees

Your probably applying for collector car collision insurance, you only need(an probably can only get) regular liabilty insurance to drive. Kids cant get collision on old cars(agreed value anyway) so you-ll just have to be carefull, and if you **** up your hot rod you can always fix it yourself, cause your ******** right? :)

Don't feel too bad, most car rental companies won't rent cars to anyone under 23. Whatever you do DO NOT hide the fact that you have a Hot Rod, if something does go wrong, and the insurance company thought you had a stocker they will not cover the damages.

  7. the37kid is right make sure they know exactly what you have i am 24 and i had insurance through progressive for my 33 sedan when is was 18, and on my 32 3window i had state farm when i was 20. so try those two, tell them you want a stated value policy and they should be able to help you out. another thing to ask them about would be non owners policy what that is is a liablilty insurance that covers the cars you drive that are not yours it is cheap. that is what i had until i moved out of mom and dads house. i even kept that when i had my other insurance so my regular policy wouldn't go up if i told them i drove my dads cars. there is ways to get insurance at a young age so don't give up you might have to get a job or another one at that to pay for it but you got to do what you got to do.

Have your Dad send in an appplication to Haggerty. I just got my car insured with them and they weren't uptight about my 16 year old son being a new driver in the household. They just want to make sure you have a "nornal" insurance policy for the daily drivers and the collector car(s) aren't the daily drivers.

If you're planning to use the A as a daily driver and want your own insurance (rather than staying on your parents' policy), you might end up in whatever your state's ***igned risk plan is and if they write stated amount physical damage, it'll be high $$. Best to try to keep it on the family policy somehow.

  9. Im 17 and had the same problem (my '59 is my daily driver). Just have the car registered under you dad's name with a company like USAA (thats what we used) which is not a antique-specific insurance company. Just insure it with them and tell them that your father will be the primary driver, but you will frequently be driving it too. Good luck!

Put the car on a multi-car policy and put you as the primary driver on the vehicle that you CAN get insurance for. If you father gets coverage on the vehicle and he gives you permission to drive the vehicle, his coverage will cover it while you're driving it. I'm pretty sure the ***le needs to be in his name (may depend state to state). But I'm not positive on any of that that.

All I know is that I managed to avoid paying premiums from age 15-21 with that little loophole. My Dad worked for State Farm at the time. :D

Looks like there are a few options to explore here Kirby.

Now get off the computer and get back to work on the Model A.

You need to let Hagerty know what you are doing! When I insured with them, they wanted no one without 10 years driving experience driving the cars they insure.
My youngest son tried to get his 55 insured with Hagerty and it was a no go.
He finally insured with State Farm with an agreed value policy. He is paying about three times more and you can bet when he gets the years under his belt, he will go with Hagerty.

you ought to be able to get just liability on it?, my son is 20 with 3 nice rides and he cant run full coverage because he cant afford it and he cant run grundy because he isnt 22 yrs old, i have grundy on my caddy and the wifes 31, and for those of you runnin insurance under your folks name you better check and make sure your even covered as a driver under them if the insurance co doesnt know and you think your fooling them, wait till you get into a wreck and they wont pay for damages because your not on the list as a driver, so be careful how you do it, cause it may be your folks;s **** in the sling if you have the accident!!

  16. ABIA they'll insure anybody.

You're gonna be considered high risk for quite awhile and you might as well get used to it.
I'm old but I still only put PL/PD on my stuff. Unless you buy cl***ic car insurance your insurance company is going to try and give you s**** value for anything you crash anyway. The money I save on insurance I spend on a valid appraisel and hope that the guy that hits me is insured.

If you bang it up and its your own fault you just fix it and call it a lesson.
