I just had The Salt City Special deliverd to my house last night!!! WOW!! Nothing sounds better than a Flat Head!! This car fired up with the first push of the ignition. I can tell you we had allote of lookers when it came off the trailer. I took it for a ride this morning and after a small bump the front wheels oscillated left and right until I came to a stop. Definatly would be a bad idea to get on a Highway like that. Is anyone familiar with this vehicle and has that happed to anyone else before. I will post a pix later of the front suspension and car as she sits today as soon as i read the POST on how to add pictures. Thanks to all!!! Mofo
Here is a pix of the car before she got loaded in Nort Carolina. And another in her old garage I will take pix of the front suspension and post later. Thanks HAMBers!!
Start from square one and check ALL of the suspension components. Then check the alignment specs. After all of that call So-Cal and get a steering dampener and enjoy your new toy. I can't wait for all of the advice your going to get after posting this thread but I'll just ask you to refer back to this post when you've exhausted all other avenues. Frank
Common dilemma , as is failing to do a search .... Enjoy your new ride and the HAMB . http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/search.php?searchid=13830805
Check all front end parts for adjustment and secure fasteners. If all is ok put a damper on it like the so-cal one, that will stop it.
Thanks Lab Rat Just checked out all the posts on the death wobble. I already ordered a So Cal dampner. Oh the power of search!!!
I expect your death wobble will be pretty hard to cure, axle over a foot ahead of spring mount points? good luck with that.
That thing was built for style ! not much engeneering or design there. First NO SHOCKS ,looks like excessive caster and the pitman arm should point straight down with the front wheels straight ahead. Going to need a fair bit of re-work to make a usable driver out of it. Buy a trailer !!
the RPU was built by Deacon Baker from the Throttlers of SLC fame at the time.,maybe shoot them an PM for advice or questions?
Can't see much adjustment for caster adjustment (from the photo's) with the suicide style front end.......good luck without modifying it....hope for the best and prepare for the worst. May the force be with you.
I'd worry about the scrub line - looks like raising it up about 6" in the rear and maybe 3 or so up front would eliminate that problem - might even help with the other. Oh, and just 3 more words - bigs and littles... Steve
