The DMV asked for the plates before the truck was inspected. my truck has the factory revites stamped on the tag. the Serial #'s and license plate #'s match the pink slip.

i can understand the guy saying that it looks like it has been tampered with. the tag was placed on the inner glove box lid. now anyone can take off the glove box lid and replace it with another one and say its their truck.

Roger, everyone wants to build their cars or truck within a certain era. placeing new plates on it, throws off the whole look.

You should go to the CHP...not for an AVN tag, but to verify that your VIN is legit, readable, and intact. Then, you can go back to DMV with a proud middle finger...well, you might want to keep that in the pocket until you get your plates tagged. I'm just taking your word for what's going on. DMV is like an Indian Reservation...they operate under their own laws!

now tell the truth everyone. does this look tampered with?

i have an appointment with CHP on May 11th. i don't mind them placing a new VIN # as long as i can keep my plates.

Does anybody know if these hand stamps work well enough. . .

I need to register a truck that has a new frame . . the cab has a vin plate and I figured I would stamp a number on the frame to match.

Dante- it seems like you could do this too. . . so you would have two matching numbers.

I am pretty aprehensive about the day I will need to show a cop my truck to get the numbers verified . . . 54's didn't come stock with airbags and rear mounted engines. . . I could be opening a can of worms.

You could also be worming by telling people you're stamping numbers in a frame in an open forum. Hope you have a steady hand.

LS, Check out www.davesclp.com and call him with your question. He will tell you what to do. I am pretty sure that if you have both plates and they are not reg. to any other vehicle you can do a YOM regestration. Read his link on YOM. Hud

    Looks fine too me.

I am just wondering...is that where the tag should be? if so, i don't see the fear of it being tampered with. Who would go through the trouble to try and find the correct plate attached to the inner glovebox lid. Seems a bit hard to tamper with or tag it with your own tag. but i guess this day in age pretty much everything is possible.

Dante, anyway you can post what's on the vin? What year is your truck? 57's had the vin on the drivers door. Your plate looks odd, but it appears to be in the right place if its a 58+. -The catholic

  13. Has anyone tried what True said about finding a set of plate and seeing if the number is avail in the personalized plates at the DMV? sounds like a good loophole.

Dante, if you don't want to do the DMV inspection look in the yellow page there are vehicle verificatin service availible, usually about 30 buck but they know wha their doing. good luck, don't give up your plates!!

  14. You got screwed if you have an old registration slip or pink slip that has your vin, and those plate numbers on them... find the right person, and get those plates on it!

On my '57, the vin plate is in the passengers side door jamb, but I think they went to the glove box door after that.

Ask to talk to the manager...

  16. there are people who make a living selling old plates (some are not to pricey either), so just buy em, no need to find loopholes or paint a new plate. it's like 10 bucks a year more to run them, you just have to make sure the numbers are good. one lic plate collector told me the old numbers are being used up for new plates, so even if you have the plates and there not registered to your car/truck the numbers can go and your plate is useless. i registered my '36 with the yom plates (for the first year) and then non oped it so those plates are mine and mine only......... and the car isnt even close to being done yet. moral of the story is get off your asses and register those plates or go get em and then register em..............they aren't gonna last for ever.

40StudeDude, to me the year of make plates (yom) is like adding a vintage speed part or part in general. it looks great and it fits the car. nothing is worse then having the new reflective white script california plates (with too many numbers) on my cars/truck. the only bad part is my panel is a '64 and they took the plates a long time ago (truck was a lein sale) now i'm stuck with the lame new plates forever (unless the include the black plate.......which they never will).

NOT! Yes they will take your plates if you know not better, but say you don't have them. But actually if you bring in the slip (Year of manufacturer) filled out stating original manufacturer plates. You will need to have the correct plate for the year of vehicle and the sticker or tag for that year. Then you can put those plates on your vehicle. Satin
