Has anyone ever used one of these. I bought the complete set up from a friend of mine that is still in the box.
I plan on using it on my g***er project, which will be running a Dodge 170 ci slant six with a turbo on it.
My question is; how does the vacuum switch on this unit work?
I have read the instructions and the unit is made to run all the time, if the water temp is right, if there is oil pressure. I plan on putting a switch in it, but am wondering if it has to have a certain amount of vacuum before it will work.
I want to use this unit to keep detonation down at high boost.
This car will mainly be used on the strip, but if I can find a ***le, I will drive it on the street.

Water Injection is such a cool idea. I don't know how well it would work out with a turbo though. Your compression will obviously increase as the turbo builds boost, but because of that you'd have to figure out a way to back off the water injection in high boost as to not increase compression beyond the breaking point of the motor. I'd imagine it would be easier to use on a NA engine.

Well this is one of the problems that I am trying to figure out. As the boost increases, the compression will increase, therefore detonation will occur. I would rather have the injection unit come on at high boost.
As far as running water, I have talked to several people that recomend running a 50/50 mix of water and alcohol.
I know that in WWII, they used water injection on the supercharged airplane engines to keep detonation to a minimum.

seems you want it to work under boost only,
so i would think you would need a pressure switch, and also insure you could vary pump output pressure,(to overcome boost pressure ),
so you will not think it is injecting water when it is not,
or you could QUICKLY have a ventilated piston!

  5. I got a buddy that runs twin turbos on an SBC. He runs water injection and swears by it. His is run through a nitros solonoid that runs off a boost switch. He runs a seperate fuel pump that blows directly into the intake through a nitrous nozzle same set up boost sensative.

I'm thinkin' that your better off to make it boost sensative than vacuum.

The early '60's Olds F85 Jetfires ran a water/alcohol injector with the turbo on the aluminum 215 V8

These guys set up Jay leno's tornado with water injection. I've talked to them about a supercharger kit with water injection for my mopar engine. They are really personable and helpful, and from what I hear, they know their stuff

I built one to use on a SBC with a blow thru carb setup running 12 pounds of boost and it works great. You want to use a pressure sensative switch and a water solenoid to activate the pump under boost. That sounds like a great setup with the slant six. Check this link it has a schematic that explains it all.
