Customs Installing fender skirts - ever put a stud through your fender?

I'm installing '41 Cadillac skirts on my '41 Buick. I've had to make some modifications to make them work, and the profile looks good. However at the front top corner and top rear corner of the skirt I can get them to snug up against the fender like I want them to (the wheel opening on these cars is basically a radius, and the skirts extend well beyond that). Is there any reason not to weld a stud on the back of the skirt and drill a small hole in the fender and wing nut on the back? May be a stupid question, but I've read a lot about all sorts of brackets and latches to make these work, but I'm not sure they'll solve my problem here.
    Thanks for the input.

If it's the same body, 'B' or 'C' I assume that the skirts should fit to some extent despite the fenders being slightly different? I'd be reluctant to drill a hole in the fender but that's me. I'd try to reshape the skirt with some metal shaping or make new skirts using OEMs as a template for a cardboard pattern that can be transferred to sheet panel steel. The offending edges and corners may only need some minor shrinking to make them conform to your Buick fender before edging. Also a protruding stud facing in towards the tire could damage the tyre sidewall or worse still. In oem configuration the skirts attach at the leading and rear edges with the locking mechanism engaging the centre top. Make sure you use welting and avoid metal to metal.

Here are a few ideas as a starter:-

As long as the studs won't interfere with the tire and you can easily reach the wing nuts incase of a flat then go for it. A couple holes in it wouldn't be any different than trim or emblem holes.

If its the inner fender lip then sure, Ive seen plenty of stock skirts that dont fit as snug as they should. A stud will help to align the skirt and fender.

I have one hole with a 10-24 stud for the backs of each fender skirt. This helps pull it down tight to the fender. I never run the car with the skirts off so it doesn't matter to me.

Your car is my car's idol :) If it's good enough for your Ford, it's good enough for me!
