Hy Guys One Question! I open a old Flathead Engine and see theres a Oil Pump installed with a Relief Valve, but org. under the Intake Manifol is a Oil Relief Valve too!? Its a 1943 59Ab flatty! ( Maybe it is a Oil Pump froma 8Ba? ) no stampet ( Vintage) It Works? or any problems with two relief valves? Whats is the best Oil Pump for the Flatty with some Modifikations for higher Rpm? Thanks
You don't need an aftermarket oil pump in the majority of applications. A good late 8BA pump will do more than you need. Identify the later pumps by looking inside for spiral gears instead of straight gears...
the later 8ba pump has the same diameter as a older 59ab pump? what is with the Pick up? no problem to put a 8ba in an older 59ab block? have the 8ba pump a relief valve? when yes any problemes with two relief valves? let me know!
Use the 59 type pump that you removed. It is more than adequate. Check it, clean it and make sure the relief valve is not stuck. It'll be fine Jim
No problem with the 2 relief valves. Generally the one in the block is set higher than the one in the pump. That way the pump byp*** controls the pressure. You can shim the spring in the valley byp*** to increase it's pressure setting.
