Need some guidance from all of you with way more experience than me! My '53 Chevy needs everything! I've taken all of the seats out and started sanding some rough spots...blah,blah,blah.. I find myself needing some advice. I know I need to see if the 235 is even salvageable...And I figure All of the wiring needs to be redone so my plan is out with the old, in with the new, have someone look the motor over before I pour money and time into parts it needs. Any advice?

One more thing.....There's no crack in the block and theres still "oil" in and around moving parts...Major thing I see on the surface is rust and rust in the comp. around cylinders where water circulates. Acid bath or sand blast?

I'm starting out with the learning process myself cars too, but I can tell you the Rebel Wiring is a great place to start. They have a complete wiring harness for almost all these type of cars and they will help you with any questions you might have. They can also customize the harness for all your needs.
As for the engine, I wish I could be of ***istance but I'm still in the learning process on my own and no good really to help you with what to do for that. There are several social groups on here that have tons of guys that can help you out with your specific car and engine.

Id use the old wiring first just to get it started .I wouldnt tear everything apart at once ,That get discouraging for first time build .Attack everything in segments ,Just do a compression test ,,That will tell you condition of motor without wiring whole car.........

There will be a lot of advice. Some very solid, like those above. Some not so good. My opinon (that's the key word..."My") is that you should do what even a skilled and experienced builder would do. Make a list of all that needs to be done. This is a great evening time do-er. Put things in order as best as you can. Take one project at a time. Working on the floor panels? Do it. Forget the rest for right now. When that is finished, pick the next project. Engine is really the last. Engines can be rebuilt and/or replaced. Bodies, not so much. This is like eating an elephant.....one bite at a time.
One day, all the items on the list are crossed off...done. Now look at what you have accomplished!! A GREAT feeling!! Keep us updated with worrds and photos.
