292 y-block..supercharging with the t-bird paxton charger...Am trying to reinvent the "wheel" here or would this cool
thought it was only offered on the 312 t-bird, ....so this would be a relatively cool add-on when i pop the hood on my 58 f100?....what i ment by reinvent was would it be worth it!?
yeah, only ava. on 312.... but 292 is basically same block.... so you would not have to reinvent hooking it up.... do you have a supercharger? cause finding one and paying for one will be a challenge.
I dont really know....I know in 57 (the first year) only 2000 were produced, many for police cars, and about 1200 of them went into ford F-code cars. I dont know how many years this was an option or how many of them are out there.... if a guy came to me and said he had one... and i was sure it would go on my 312...i would not blink at 2000$$$
OMG....2000 seriously...no.. seriously........I didn't know they were that rare...so your telling me i should buy it?...How would i verify it to be what he says it is?
yeah they are rare!! i would go look at 57ford.com.... they should have pics and casting numbers.......
Then there is this budget option:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QP9IDovI45Q more info on doing this Google search:Y-block twin turbo
also i believe the manifold and stuff are different also....... hell i saw a guy selling the original "supercharger" air cleaners alone for 1300 each!
milo r u messn' with me .....seriously come on now.... not that i have 2gs to spend right now but i don't need to get scammed either
it looks right!! but im no expert........ remember all the other stuff you will need to come up with to make it work before you buy..... dig around on-line and come up with a complete parts list..... even if the charger is cheep, other stuff may kill you on price..... this guy could be selling cause the stuff to hook it up is so much????? having said that, that is a really rare option... 57 ford guys would pay big for.... look at the classified/wanted section on that site..... every other add is a guy wanting those parts.... maybe you could turn it over and get a cool 2/4 carb set up.....
Before you go thinkin that you discovered a gold mine-check all the numbers on the blower unit. There are two distinct versions of the supercharger for Fords. An early and a late unit. Parts were different depending upon which body style the setup would go into.T Bird stuff and passenger car were the two versions. The difference between the setups were mostly air cleaner location and type of air cleaner, brackets and pulleys. The original 57 factory installed Ford items are rare and hard to find but what nobody has mentioned is that McCulley sold "kits" for installation into all sorts of cars. Kit items are not as valuable or rare but would still do what you are attempting to do. Oldmics
yeah, cause thats what i do...sit online and screw with people so they get scammed...... lol do your homework online.... you will see! bet your hard pressed to even find a second one for sale online~!
awesome...thanks for clarification... i was talking about the ford installed stuff. i was unaware that there were other kits produced. love all the new info from this site...
I am not trying to irratate u by any means ... i am not the most familiar with this obviously and greatly appreciate your input.....was that a subtle drop on the 2x4 set-up
i was just being a smart ass....... lol no not a subtle drop... that is what i want for mine!! cause there is no way im getting a supercharger!!
Seriously man, superchargers bring big money new, let alone good vintage ones. Supercharged Y-Blocks don't fall off of trees, so you're going to pay a premium for that. $2000 for a decent blower, even if it needed to be rebuilt, would not be unreasonable. I have a VS57 off (I think) a Stude 289 that I would sell for less if you're interested.
You cant-but I can I"ll get back to you.Right off the top of my head its a 58 unit, had to be part of a kit and NOWHERE near as valuable as alluded to.Were talking the $500.00 range if its working. Also have Y Block dual quad setups availiable Oldmics
