Most all Porsche are just glorified VW/Audi's, but I'm certain that none of them are "the worst of all!"

Have you ever seen a Nissan Cube, or Honda Element?
I have to overcome an urge for vandalism every time I see one, wanting to put it in a crusher and send it back to Japan!

The old rule was (is) that four-doors are just parts cars for two-doors.
Two-doors are parts cars for convertibles.
    Convertibles Rule!

At least it has some "Style" unlike just about every Jelly Bean or Brick with wheels made in the last ten years or more.

Looks better than the dreck Japan keeps sending.

  5. It's funny, different ones talking about not wanting to be in a four door. I also disliked a four door, but I had a solution for it. I wont say it was a great solution, but fifty years ago it sure was something different. The first car I cut was a 52 Ford. I would remove the upholstery and cut 32" to 34" out of the middle. I used the front half of the front doors, and the back half of the back doors. I cut just behind the A pillar with a hack saw, and cut the body with a home made panel cutter. Remember this was fifty years ago. Next I jacked up the frame at the rear of the front cut and at the rear bumper. Once the car was cut in too the back end would fall backwards. My friends and I would push the back end forward and line the dam thing up. I would weld the post at the rain gutter. I had to put two cuts one on each side running parallel to the rain gutters on the rear section from the front almost the rear window. The rear section of those old cars where wider by 4" at the rear. I would pull the two sections in and weld everything up. Once the rocker panels, and across the roof where welded I would weld the frame. Then it was time to make the doors fit. I used paint sticks as spacers for the door gap. close the back door and tack weld it. The door would open and close with the proper gaps. Then it was time to finish welding her up. I had no money, but I could build a piece of shit that no one else had. In all I cut down 16 different cars for friends and myself. One place I was living at the cops did an investigation to see if it was legal.
These are pictures of a few of the later cars I cut down. When I say later. Forty years ago. The yellow Pontiac was blue when I cut it down. Who would beleave it's still around after all these years. The 64 Chevy was cut down in 1980. It was the only two door that I ever cut down. I drove it 90 thousand miles. So don't throw your four doors away. Cut them down.
A little side note. I was driving a 1960 Pontiac that I had cut down. This was in 1967 and I was home on leave from the Army. We where leaving New England Drag way. On the way down interstate 495 we saw KS Pitman in his 56 Ford pickup hauling his Willy's Gasser. He gives the pop em up signal and I start hopping the front end up and down and up comes the front wheels. He got a boot out of it.
Hay, us asshole old Hot Roders and Custom freaks come in all kinds.

At least the Gremlin had some kinky character and a useful hatchback, but the first Hornet 4-door had no virtues what ever.

A writer friend was assigned a road test for Car & Driver. He blew by me in it at about 95 and I don't think he was testing the high-speed stability, I think he was trying to blow it up.

Absolutely, those are beyond lame............I had a local guy ask to trade my 15x4 Cragars for a pair of those, he seemed genuinely surprised when I told him not a chance and that I didnt care his were "worth more".

Back in the day, I wouldn't have been caught dead driving the wagon in my Avatar. I've had all kinds of cars but this is the first wagon I've owned. I'm having more fun with it then lots of other car's I've had.

I agree on the lifted late model monster deisel pickup trucks. Lots of young guys drive them around here. Guess it's a status/ego trip for them.

One car I would never, ever want to be seen in is a Mazda Miada. It's a girl's car! The only guys that drive them around here are old bald men. Guess they think they look cool in the car, or are trying to relive thier youth.

A lot of folks with lifted trucks around here either drag race them or take them to off-road parks. At least the guys I know do.

I love a sporty Miata! I don't understand why they get such a bad wrap, I mean I know they're a little "cute" in stock form, but with a little modification they can look down-right mean.

'Round here it's lifted late model trucks with 12" diameter stacks coming out of the bed, spewing thick black smoke. Must be a contest to see who can make the biggest cloud, some so thick you can't see the road.
