Maybe you are just pulling somebodys chain, but, do you mean a torque converter with a stall speed of 3500??

Changing them? No, not unusual. Calling them a "stall converter" yes. They are torque converters. Torque converters have stall speeds. Proper terminology helps. When I got on the board I saw people talking about stall converters. Turns out they were discussing what I had always known as torque converters. I think in most places they still are. Or, is Stahl a manufacturer of torque converters?? I really don't know.

Now that this is all behind us.
As for the Torque convertor, yes I've had the same thing happen in the past. Once filled with fluid and installed, all was good.

It's all good, pour it full of fluid and put it in the car. Always need to make sure of pump engagement depth prior to bolting it up to flex plate.
BTW....stall speed is a product of how much power (torque) the engine makes.
If you really want higher stall speed a custom built TC is required. An "off the shelf" TC may or may not give you a change. They (torque converters) are not a "one size fits all" kind of deal. Happy motoring !

Normal. The turbine and stator are not supported until installed on the transmission.

Geez. Was anyone really confused about what he meant?

  15. Probably rattles, cause there's no fluid in it.

  16. Have heard many people call them Stall Converters for many years, at least since the 70's. As in "Yeah, it's got a 427 with a stall converter, 4-11's and a posi". Now most gear heads understand what he means and it's a lot easier than saying "Yes Sir, My automobile has a four hundred and twenty-seven cubic inch big block Chevrolet engine with an automatic transmission that has been upgraded to a Higher RPM Stall Torque Converter and a rear end that has has a Four point one, one to one gear ratio ring and pinion with a limited slip differential"
Typical conversation "You got a stall converter in that thing?" "yep 3500"

But he did spell Stall wrong, Stahl is a header manufacturer

Stahl makes torque converters? I though they just made headers.

x2 on filling it up with red stuff first! When I first changed to a TCI 3500 off the shelf converter it wouldn't flash beyond 2800 for awhile. I took it out and womped it a few times and it now goes to 3400 easy. Like something loosend up. I'm running a 306 and a c-4. Good luck, I bet it goes together in less time than it took to get a straight answer on here today. YOU are a good sport!:)

Don't let some a hole cod run your blood pressure up. Everyone knows what you are asking, some people are just full time ones.

Yes the stall converter will rattle. I am sure you know to fill it with fluid prior to installation.
Sorry for the repetition, He lit my fuse, and I responded before getting to the last reply.
    good luck,

Just a tip from an old guy , Sometimes when installing a new convertor the spines are real snug on in it. You will find it easier to get it on the splines if you set the trans on its tail straight up and put it on that way . best of luck
