Swapping out my son's tired 307 for a later model 350. Had hoped to re-use all the components off the front of the 307, to include the power steering pump, but because the balancer on the 350 is a little bit larger the bracket won't fit in the mounting location near the bottom of the block. Can we swap the balancer too or would that be a bad idea?

    Thanks

    Alex

If it's an internal balance engine and you use a balancer for internal balance you should be fine for typical street use. Some claim the 8"+ balancers accelerate more quickly. I haven't seen any back-up evidence myself. Just don't mix internal and external balance components.

If you are going to twist it to high rpms, you should be balancing everything irregardless....

For normal street use I'd swap out the balancer and never look back.

Swap it, just make sure the timing marks are the same.

Just swapped a 327 from an Impala into a 57 Chev. and the 350 from the 57 into the Imp. with the same problem. We notched the power steering bracket of the Impala for the 350 balancer and will work just fine.

Thanks for all the responses. Will try altering the bracket first.
