I going to block the ass end of my car. I was wondering what problems I might run Into. I used lowering blocks on a 49 chevy truck and has to chang a bunch of shit. I'm pretty green when it comes it cars so any advise will help. Its a 51 pontiac chieftian.
Here is a quick search for the topic http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/search.php?searchid=13879406 I installed a set in my 52 Pontiac that my son and I made. Is your 51 is a US model? It should be pretty straight forward, buy new longer U bolts, make sure the brake lines are routed clear of any hangups, look everything over while you are under there, etc... I think the max I was willing to go was 3".
I put 4" blocks in my 51 ponti no probs, a little loose in the rear though so I am about to pull the springs out and get new ones made up with a 4" drop. Oh and I only have an inch and a half bump stop clearance so I need to chop the stops as well. the exhaust is still about 4.5 inches off the deck with no load on the car
I.ve got 2-1/2" blocks in the back and no issues so far - did convert it to open drive though. See my photo album for the saddle I made up for it to keep everything above the scrub line.
i put 2 inch blocks in the back and i had a fatttt tire rub, but its probably a lot different on a 51 pontiac
Thanks guys I was worried about the drive shaft and the back tires moving. When I lowered my truck those were the issues. Next issue is to figure out how to get to the last two bolts on the intake . Their officially kicking my ass. Im sure I mentioned im pretty green when it comes to cars. Only one way to learn though.
