The fiddy is a few days from being ready to squirt a little color on her after six years in the making. I am wanting to go with a deep brandywine color finish with with a some what pearl look. I am pretty sure i will be using the PPG line. Could any of you fellas send me a few sugestion on what colors to look at. I will be at the local paint shop Monday morning to try to decide.. Thanks for upfron for any help on this one
honestly, photoshop is your best choice to SEE what it will look like in different colors. nice ride by the way, love the floating grill bar.
PPG has a nice Brandy wine in there "Vibrance Colour Chips" Worth a look. Harley has the original around 1977. It's a metallic grey base with a burgandy candy over it. I has a nice red on the highlights out in the sun. The Old Tinbasher
Here's my advice. When looking for colors on other cars, put some effort into finding similar size and shape of vehicles. In other words, you said you possibly wanted a "brandywine" color. Well.... look for early fifties cars with that color, don't look at square bodied cars, as the color might look great on flat panels but not as spectacular as on long flowing curved lines, and vice versa. Doesn't matter if it's Pagan Gold or Brandywine, try to see it squirted on something similar to the shape of your ride....
Try this one out, Dupont Metalic Red base / clear coat and comes with some pearl in it. We have never heard anythingm but nice complements and what is the code.
I wish, H code 351W -auto-9"rearend with 78,000 original miles and zero rust. It is for sale, shhhhhh
look at GM color code wa301n/80 ppg code 908589 or ford HH ppg 908631 if you are dealing with a supplier that is decent they should be able to give you a 2oz sample of these so you can do a sprayout and see these colors better...both are nice and will look great on that '50 imo
Listen up! I paint car for myself, and for others. Not production stuff, strictly custom, using BC/CC, Candy, Pearls, etc. Color is a VERY personal, subjective thing. What one guy thinks is a perfect red, another will think is too orange-y, and another will say it's too dark. I never tell a customer what color to paint his car, even if he is a clueless Newby. I show him color charts, tell him to visit new car dealerships, watch cars on the street, go to car shows, spray out colors I have laying around, etc. I GUIDE him into choosing what he likes, NEVER dictate it! Even if he picks a colr chip from a book, I spray it out on a larger part and let him see it in more realistic conditions. Paint today is far too expensive to take a chance on shooting your car a color you won't like. And it's far too much work to re-do it. You need to do your own research, and pick what YOU like. And BTW, photoshopping type programs are almost useless, as they rearely get the colors right, dont show the quality of depth, reflection, and color change that REAL paints do, on REAL cars. I've even painted empty one gallon cans for guys trying to choose, and let them take them home, view them in different lighting conditions...bright sun, dark, street lights, cloudy days, etc., to be sure they will like the color all the time.
