Have you had success in selling your car?How long did it take? Did you get close to your selling price? The reason I ask is it just dosent seem like they are selling. I've got the itch to make a change in my ride, but dont want to give it away ethier,Any body give me an idea how they did?
I sold 2 cars just by going to the swap meet, however, that was before the economy tanked. Its seems, these days, no one has money except lowballers that want to flip the car. Depending on your price, it might be easier to do a trade.
^ In California Im sure thats how it is, up here its business as usual. Just place it in a few vintage car & truck publications and you should get a response. Advertising really is key with these older iron, and you can almost never over advertise it. Craigslist, Kijiji are always great as well.
tradeing is good if you can find some thing that intrests you.But that isnt easy either.I think our economy has hut our hobby.Wonder if it will come back
Good stuff sells in good or bad times. Older people still like literature (Hemmings & Good Guys Gazzette)...3 good web sites for the under 60 crowd// HAMB, Hot Rod Hot Line, and Auto Trader.... lower your price every month and shoot to sell within 3 months. It will sell, but like anything else you have to be active, and spend something to get something. Guy
Market price for a car is "not giving it away". I have had success in local papers and craigslist. Unfortunately when we sell something, the value is what someone is willing to pay for it, it's not necessary what we believe it to be worth. Research the net for the value of your car, price it realistically and it will sell. Trading, as mentioned is a very good way to get something new without cash being exchanged. Good Luck
I was surprised in the amount of response I got from a craigslist ad for my 50 Chevy pickup. It sold in 4 days! I was pleased.
Selling cars is really tough right now. All the specialty dealers I know are having a really tough time.
By Cheap sell Fair. You look ridiculous trying to get 2007 prices in 2011. Completed Listings on E-Bay for a similar car will give you market value for yours. It is what it is.
ya never know-might put ads all over the country and not get a serious bite, then take it to the movies with ad in window-sell that day for asking price. has happened to me.
Evening news tonight said unemployment is down is 33 states, lots of new jobs. Good stuff (like '32 Fords) always bring decent money. Six years ago, I advertised my '54 DeSoto Club Coupe for sale. Got a call from a very rude and pushy vintage car dealer in another state, ridiculing my asking price, telling me that he would offer me 1/3 of what I was asking because in "today's economy," that was the best I was gonna be able to do. I sold it locally for full asking price and the buyer is now a good friend.
GOOD STUFF still SELLS ! The less desired and off the wall stuff ... is taking a beating. The real popular cars and parts still command the $$$ because of SUPPLY and DEMAND I have a friend who p***ed away recently and his wife asked me what his 32 Ford was worth. I told her my opinion. 3 or 4 other friends also advised her. My price was right in the middle of the range. We were all within 3 thousand dollars. She put it up for sale @ the upper range price but sold it at my price within 2 weeks. I just did not need another 32 project right now but I would like a 32 sedan sometime in the future.
Bob, Why don't you have some small decals made for your side windows that say "for sale and your cell number". Then just drive it. Or I' ll trade you for mine and $30 large! Ok?! Mikey
paradox. If the lowballers just wanna flip the car, then there are people (with money) for the lowballlers to flip the car to. No?
We've had some good luck and some bad luck, several swap deals, one guy wanted to do payments on a $1500 car from a neighboring state - that's not all bad, he may make a couple payments and vanish off the face of the earth - and a lot of idiots who want to play vulture, but those never change. Had a guy I thought wanted an O/T car just for the ***le, but he's stopped answering emails, and guy who was going to buy a gas pump, but I think was just pulling my leg as it's been a couple months and no money order's ever turned up. Oh well. But what someone else said holds true, the best stuff will sell, it may not bring the same money as it did a few years ago, but there's always a market for things like '32 Fords.
The right car at the right price is an easy sell. What doesn't sell are ***leless non-running dented and rusted up piles. I've sold a lot of cars, most of them sell real quick. The cars with the lowest resale value are unit body cars with a lot of cancer. No matter how neat they look no one wants to mess with that much work. Also 60s four doors are right up on there no resale value list. Unless it has a ***le, runs, and stops you can forget about trying to sell one of those. What I've seen for average prices that old cars 40s-50s have been sold for: 1. ***leless cars that aren't much more than parts cars at best with seized engines. Worth s**** price at best (some exceptions like 30s stuff). 2. Running cars with no ***les, still beat up with a bunch of holes in floor, bad gl***, basically a field car. Anything from 40s on up is worth less than 600 bucks especially if it is a four door. 3. ***led car, runs good, basic field car, 500-800 bucks depending on the car. 4. ***led car, runs good, decent body, ok interior, 750-1200 (depending). 5. Near driver, 1200-1600 6. Good driver, needs cosmetic work 1500+ Don't have any photo examples for the last two. I've noticed there isn't much of a difference in resale value for 40s stuff versus mid 50s stuff. After the mid 50s my experience with most vehicles is that they start to drop off in value and go down from there unless we are talking something really desirable. The difference between a nice early to mid 50s driver and an early to mid 60s driver can be a thousand dollars or more. I've had a few and looked at a lot of decent 60s era drivers for 500-750 bucks. People who think they are going to get 3 to 4k for something like a 64 Chrysler four door sedan that isn't in perfect shape are dreaming. I see a lot of those types of cars on Craigslist. Even at 1500 bucks they don't move real fast. Once you move into the 70s even a lot of cream puffs aren't worth much more than 1500 bucks that need nothing. There are always exceptions but if you have a car that you've tried to sell for a year and it isn't gone you don't own an exception.
i look up the price based on the condition of the car and sell it as FIRM. i put in the add, no tire kickers or lowballers. if they start asking what my bottom line is, i refer them to FIRM. if they want it, they'll buy it. you will need to adjust suggested prices because of economy.
yeah lots of new jobs but what do they pay? One of my papers from the nearest fairly big town Jackson Mi. had an ad in for trained machinists and they were willing to pay up to $9.00 per hour for skilled help. Aint that great How low can we set the bar in this country?
Trades are happening a lot now. People don't have the cash they used to, but we all seemed to have projects. Since you're looking to get into a new set of wheels, I'd advertise that way. I tried selling my '41 Ford truck and had just a few nibbles. A fellow HAMBer offered me a great trade and we both got what we wanted.
I have two cars for sale. I did my research and priced them accordingly. Now all of a sudden this past week I am getting lots of interest. I also am seeing some price increases on the good stuff. I think people are starting to wake up after a long winter. It is also reflected in the housing market. A couple of houses near me that have been for sale a long time sold this week. And gas dropped to under $4 here today (big deal) . Hope it keeps improving.
Depends on where you are, what you have, and what buyer is ready at what time. Stick to your price and the right person will find it.
A real estate broker Friend, told me houses will sell it's simple all you just have to do is price them right. I guess the same applies to vehicles also. If you want to part with them at a cheap price. I'm about to list some muscle cars for sale will see how that goes. I need to fund my 32 roadster quest.
I've had my roadster for sale for three years. Some interest but, nobody returning with the cash. I am thinking of Hot Rod Hot ZLine if it doesn't go this season. Duece of Spades car! DW
My old touring had a few lookers, serious ones and pals on the HAMB but in the end it went to one of our clubmembers in the Vagabonds. The car just HAS to fit what the person wants it for. In the case of the first two, there were a couple resons it would not work for them. But in the end it involved a partial trade, you gotta be flexible.
Cars, Real Estate, whatever, will sell now, or anytime for that matter..as long as the seller is realistic on his price. How do you know if you are asking a realistic price? Educate yourself on the market..know what is selling today, and for what prices. Once you have armed yourself with actual knowledge/comparables, you can price your whatever appropriately. Word of caution, you may just come to the realization that you can't sell it for what you can live with.
Trades all the way!! Seems like no one has extra cash to spend on anything that runs on liquid gold!! (gas) pushing like 4.50 here!! i have had good luck tradeing for what i want ha even if it means traden for something i dont want to in turn trade it for what i do want!!
