What kind of breathers are these??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by tomcantdoit, May 21, 2011.

  1. Found these in a friends garage and he gave them to me but don't know what kind they are... I saw a picture of a flathead with similar breathers on the oil pan but I'm not sure, they look pretty big for valve covers.

either crankcase sides or Buick nailhead V/C...nearly 90° - won't work on any other engine with canted valve covers

They are generic breathers that were cast in the 50s-60s and sold by just about everyone.

Offenhausers were 2 piece units with the name cast into the cap but you could get a 2 piece breather with a generic no name cap and the parts interchanged. I didn't want the advertizing and used the smooth caps.

    Offy's say so.

Your type were popular on HP flathead mills. When I first got into flatheads I though how cool they were on the pan and then an old timer said where else would they be on the valve covers?? Doh!;)

Actually, they would work on canted valve covers quite well, mounted on the intake side.

I agree. Some of those one piece types like yours are pretty big for valve covers. I've seen them on Himi VCs. on the ends.

The 2 piece Offy style were available with 2 different angle bases. These are less than 90*

I didn't care for the look. Too many angles for my eye so I replaced them with the 90* bases. They work great.

  15. Cool any idea on value? And no not just send them to me ill s**** em for you either... Lol
