Event Coverage So what would YOU say to....

  1. Many years ago, my wife and I were looking at a restored 70 Hemi Challenger at a local show and we were the only people looking at it and the owner wasn't with it. Back then, I didn't know how to read the VIN tag and mentioned that I wasn't sure if it was an original Hemi car or not and the owner just happened to walk up behind us and over heard what I said and let loose a mouth full of cuss words in his rant about how it was an original Hemi car. That was my first negative experience with local shows and after several more similar issues like that, it's just not that fun to go even look anymore but I like to drive my cars and I drive em hard. That's fun for me. Drive em like you stole em and not sitting in a lawn chair some hot parking lot or getting ate up by skeeters when it's at night.

  2. Hey now it weasn't my fault that I hit that Duece street rod with that motorized bar stool. If the guy that owned it hadn't left it to go after beers I wouldn't have tried to drive it. :D

  3. i hate being on the outside looking in and i never bring a knife to a gun fight.

His cars, his business, and absolutely none of yours or anyone else's; period.

  5. Hey, its his decision. No one else need second guess him. He might be like me, after half a century of driving for a living, I get tired of driving places and prefer to ride shotgun sometimes. But it doesn't matter why, its his life, let him live it the way he wants. Does he interfere in your decisions?

  6. tommy, I'll give you a logical spin, he might have some private health issues. In today's day and age, more people like to keep any serious health issues on the down low. You cant blame them, telling the world you are in poor health, even when you look good, leaves you open for the vultures. The low lifes that prey on people who might not be able to defend themselves, word spreads fast that way. Also on the poor health deal, he might not be able to sit on the side of the road even for a short period of time without a set back or worse. Just food for thought. :D TR

The last few years I have found myself working in the shop and not wanting to leave. Its taken so long to gather up all my tools and equipment. I just want to use them to fabricate and skip the shows.

I have cars that could be taken to shows just don't like driving long distances in them...actually I don't really enjoy driving my cars that often...I enjoy the parts hunt and the work...all that my change when I finish the current project

personally, I don't really care for car shows. I like cruise nights and rod runs. I don't like sitting around in the heat, I would much rather drive or race, which often become the same thing!

Who knows, maybe he had to stop by Home Depot on the way home to pick up a new washing machine.

Without him coming here and telling us why he drove what he did, this is all just speculation.

I've done it. Some days I'm nice and social, some days it's "leave me alone".
I like the attention the Burb gets, most times.
I go to shows for the friends anyway, hardly ever sit buy the car

I'd rather see the show than be in it. I sometimes feel embarrased of my car. I also don't like attention or eyes on me. I can see you wanting others to enjoy his cars, but I see his side even more. Maybe you and another pal can get his car(s) over?

I'm afraid that I am one of those guys also.
I would rather drive my cars than be stuck at a show and I really don't drive them that much.
Prefer being in the garage working with my tools.
My friend bugged the heck out of me to go to the showdown and I spent yesterday working on my distributor alone and had a nice day.

  19. I caught it one third of the way through his first sentence. Very funny, thanks for bringing this back up.
I'm going to hold you to that promise.
To be honest you have driven your cars a lot more since I've known you. You know I'm not a big fan of shows but the rides to them have always been enjoyable. I promise to go to more if we keep the caravan going. So.....dark thirty at the DD for the Jalopy Showdown this spring? Lets get in some more motorcycle trips this summer also.

  20. With all of the help from true hot-rodders like yourself and Keith and Al and Willie and my long time friend Tom (building the Model A) maybe I can keep these old crates on the road.

I enjoy the drive to cruise nights I don't like taking my car to a show for lots of reasons but I'll take a quick walk through then be on my way. When I was young I lived, slept, and thought hotrod day and night not so much anymore

I have a friend who drives his daily driver to shows rather then his rods. When questioned, he replied I know what my cars look like, I go to shows to see other cars.

If every attendee took that approach, then there would be no cars (rods) to see.

I like the "drive thru" shows where you pay your entrance fee and then drive
through the parking lot to see the cars and then leave
    .

There are definitely 2 sides to this issue. I have a '31A Hiboy and a '40 Ford coupe. The roadster still doesn't have any interior upholstery other the seats them selves, but people seem to like it when I go to shows with it. The '40 coupe is damn nice if I say so myself, and I do sorta enjoy the compliments I get on both cars:)
I live about 35-40 miles south of Atlanta, and have been to several different shows and cruise ins down here on the South Side. But I seldom drive to the club events on the North Side in either car, and I suspect anyone who has driven thru Downtown Atlanta on the X waays understands why:eek:
There's some of the wildest crazy drivers up there that its almost like a demolition derby. I go in either my late model DD or my fairly late model Silverado Duramax. In either of them I know that a collision is gonna mean a trip to the body shop, but most likely it won't be a total!
In either hot rod, if it gets bent up then you have a helluva hassel coming to get it back right. You don't get replacement parts and pieces quite so easily:oops:
Plus, in the 2 dailies, you've got much more safety protection than in either hot rod, especially an open wheel roadstero_O
So I'll continue to go to stuff local, when I have a chance, but that doesn't include very much at all that means Xway driving in metro Atlanta.

I don't like going to shows without my car. Just doesn't seem like you are really part of it if you don't have it there. With that said, my ride is a black 57 Vette which is a pain in the ass to clean up before a show and after. I don't attend as many as when it was first built but still hit probably 10 a season ( it a social thing). I live just north of Detroit and we are very fortunate in this area to have many cruises during the summer. Same PIA to clean up the car but way more fun than sitting in a parking lot.
Live's short enjoy the ride anyway you can.[IMG]
