Just what the ***le says. If I get a 700r4 from an SBC and place it behind the 454, is it going to fit thesame? Same bell housing pattern? Any problems I should be aware of?

yup. you'll want to beef up the transmission if you want it to live, but it should bolt right up. May be issues with the converter and fexplate bolt holes...there are some combitinations that will require you to get a different flexplate, so check it first.

Not going to be beating on it. I am placing it into my hauler. So should I still be worried?

If you're going to haul anything with your hauler, yeah.

Yes. Yes. No, as long as your foot isn't too heavy.

Only thing to be aware of is the 454 is externally balanced, so be sure to use the flexplate for a 454 with external balance weights. Also check the bolt pattern of your 700's converter to be sure it will fit the bolt pattern on the flexplate. Some flexplates have dual patterns, and neither will fit the smaller comverters, while some will. Just check it first.

Pretty sure that all the owner's manuals that came with 700R4 equipped vehicles say to NOT tow in OD.

Correct. Never tow in OD, regardless of what engine in in there.
