A friend of mine has kinda been trying to sell it for awhile now and with his move back to California coming up I got a hell of a deal on it. Like the ***le says it's a 48 plymouth business coupe. It came with an extra frame from a 47 plymouth 4 door that we s****ped awhile back. also with the front clip from the 47 too. The 47 frame has a heidt's mustang II crossmember and suspension and brakes from speedway. My plans are to put a 401 Buick Nailhead in it. ****** will be the factory one from buick. I got around 18mpg with this motor and trans in a 64 buick wildcat 4 door. so I should be able to afford gas in it even with the crazy prices right now. I sat the motor on the frame but still have to take some measurements to get it where it needs to be. here's some pics.
picked up the car last night as well as a ford 9 inch. I was hopeing to get the rear end mounted on the frame and start undoing body mounts today but then realized it was mothers day. I also got the receipts and measurements my friend took off the old frame. I have to move my motor back 5 inches but i'm going to wait until i get the body swapped. then i'll just move it back until it's about an inch off the firewall. Also the front suspension was $200 less then i paid for the whole thing.
thanks guys. this may get put on the back burner for a bit once i get the body swapped over and have it in roller form. The wife wants me to get a little commuter car but I told her I'd rather spend $4k on my 49 and get it on the road then buy a car that'll just depreciate. I think she bought it so we'll see.
no progress but I took a pic of it on my trailer at my shop. atleast it's home i guess. might get to mess with it this weekend. i can't wait to get some free time to spend on this thing.
man im going to be glued to this thread..was obsessed with putting a 322 in my 46'..what a score on the price!!keep us posted!!
finally got some time to work on this thing. got it off the trailer and the springs out from under the car and put on the new frame. And I got the 9 inch mounted. gonna get some 4 inch blocks for it and then I can start swapping the body over. the 48 won't get the supremes. I'm going to use these tires but they'll be put on steel wheels. here some pics. the car is sitting on the stock axle. obviously gonna have to notch the frame. still not low enough.
had a couple hours yesterday to spend on this thing and I got the old frame out and the new frame under it. Still have to figure out motor placement. it's pretty close to the firewall but goes under the core support. I don't really want to cut the firewall so I may have to mess with the core support. here's some pics.
think I have the radiator figured out. I'm going to use the wildcat one and drop it down and move it forward. well back at it.
I'm building a set of 6 inch drop blocks for this thing as well as motor mounts. hope to have both on tonight. maybe get the clip set on it too.
Good luck on the build. I did a similar thing, making two cars into one...you can't have too many parts. Subscribed.
