I live in Northern California. I have been involved in drag racing for almost 50 years. About 14 years ago I had a very compe***ive '57 Chevy S/ST car. One evening my son and I were at a local car show and ran into what are called quarter midgets, oval track race cars for kids. My son, then seven, decided he wanted to give them a try. As it ended up, he really liked them. I sold my drag racing set-up and we started racing quarter midgets. I was his crew chief, handler in QM terms, for eight years in QMs, then three years in micros. It was great, but a year ago he told me he was through with all of the racing. Other activities took over for him. So I am in process of finishing up a '54 Ford F-100 that will be a working truck for towing a S/ST car that is just beginning. The F-100 has a Firebird front sub frame, chevy 350, T-350, parallel 4-link with a narrowed 9". The S/ST will be powered by a destroked Chevy Big Block, 4.53" bore by 3.75" stroke, with spread port heads. I'm just getting back into the sport after 13 years away. So hello to all of you. ~Don in Los Gatos
Welcome Back. Very commendable, that you were so supportive of your son's interests, during such formative years.
